| Customer Reviews: A no brainer for digital photographers March 27, 2008 Guffy gumpster (Pontypridd, Wales, UK) 62 out of 63 found this review helpful
After trying this software you might come the the same conclusion as me in that Adobe has gone barking mad. A few pennies over seventy quid may seem expensive (given that most if not all cameras come bundled with free photo manipulation software) but compare that with a whopping £600 for Elements' big brother Photoshop CS3 and you begin to see what a bargain this software really is.
Crammed with many of Photoshop's tools and filters it is presented in an altogether more attractive interface which will appeal to more mainstream users. Adobe holds your hand through several potentially complex areas and has thrown in a few gems such as 'Photomerge' and the 'Convert to Black and White' tool (which, incidentally, is much easier and more intuitive than the programme's big brother).
I do have a few niggles - it looks more Windows than Mac and the install routine is overly complicated - but those aside I can find little to quibble about especially given the price.
As said in the title, this is a no-brainer for digital photographers of all abilities and it may lure more seasoned Photoshop users. Well done to Adobe for bringing Photoshop within the reach of the masses. And my advice to you? Buy it before they realise their mistake.

Great value August 21, 2008 Audio Angel (St Petersburg, FL) 27 out of 27 found this review helpful
This is great value. I hesitated about purchasing partly because of the reviews, including the ones that say it steals the full screen. If you work in Full Edit mode it does NOT do this (or not on my MacBook at any rate) - the desktop is visible and accessible at the bottom of the screen behind the dock.
I also wondered whether I might end up paying nearly £100 for something that was not a lot better than iPhoto but much less functional than full Photoshop. In actual fact it is a significant advance on iPhoto for image manipulation and does everything I want just as well as the full version would.
The only downside I have encountered is that it is not intuitive to use and the included documentation is poor. To be fair, Adobe do recommend that you use their website Help, but I'd recommend anyone who does not have Photoshop experience to also purchase Barbara Brundage's "Photoshop elements 6 for Mac The Missing Manual".
Most of the functionality of Photoshop. Messy installation and non-standard interface April 11, 2008 N. Towers (North Lincolnshire, UK) 45 out of 46 found this review helpful
When you compare the price of Elements to that of the full Photoshop, you have to conclude that Elements is excellent value for money. Elements must have around 80% of the functionality of Photoshop for about a tenth of the price.
What you don't get are layer masks, channels, paths, colour range selection, and CMYK colour mode. However, Elements has a great set of tools for correcting colour and tone (including adjustment layers), and all the filters, brushes and selection tools that you expect. It comes with Adobe Camera Raw, which is excellent, as are the options for converting to black and white, correcting camera distortion, and previewing changes to selections. Elements supports a large range of file formats and is compatible with files made in Photoshop.
I do have some complaints - not about the features, but rather the installation and interface. Elements uses an installer which installs applications and creates folders without giving you any choice. For example, Adobe Stock Photos installs even though Adobe has discontinued this service; you have to download an uninstaller to get rid of it. My other complaint is, instead of running in a window that you can move and resize like other Mac applications, Elements fills your screen and is fixed in place. Neither am I keen on docking palettes into bins - it seems to leave less room for your images.
Elements falls short of the elegance of my other Mac applications, but has an excellent set of features.
A Photographer's Dream! August 4, 2008 J. Partridge (Catalunya) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
This is by far the best purchase I've made this year. Apart from the lengthy but not too complicated installation, this is a perfect piece of photo editing software for Digital Photographers and people of a creative nature. I use this program on my Macbook with not to much difficulty at all. It did use a lot of the resources on my laptop when I had a 1G memory but after I upgraded my memory (which was in my plans anyway) to 2G it worked even better. It does say in the box that for optimum use, it needs 1G of memory so don't try running anything else at the same time. I've used CS3 and there are probably 90% of the features on this program. Unless you are a serious professional (e.g. High end sports or nature photographer) then I really would advise you save your money and get this. I'm a semi pro photographer who has sold a quite a few pics and this works perfect! One other slight downside is Adobe's lack of putting a manual in the box. I have bought this manual Photoshop Elements 6 for Mac: The Missing Manual and it is the best manual on the market at a great price! Easy to use, in depth explanations. So if you buy this program then I seriously advise this book too!
Indispensible February 4, 2009 Old Den (Bedford, UK) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
I recently changed over from a PC to an iMac. I used Photoshop Elements a lot with Windows but I thought I would be able to do without it and just use iPhoto. I was wrong and soon had to buy PE 6 for Mac. I find this version easier to use than the Windows version and it comes with Bridge rather than Organiser. It works seamlessly with iPhoto and can be set to be the default photo editor. A definite "must have".
