Good product, good value, but not perfect April 8, 2008 Mike (Hampshire, UK) 21 out of 21 found this review helpful
I bought TUP2008 after trialling the 2007 version. From a useability viewpoint I slightly preferred the 2007 version, though to be fair the 2008 version has more tools included. The package seems to be quite good at spotting and fixing problems in the Windows registry, in programs, and in shortcuts. Running the 1-Click cleanup in TUP2008 every day does seem to keep the PC running more smoothly. For the price requested I think the package represents good value. I guess (inevitably) I compare it against the "old" versions of Norton SystemWorks (before Norton started to charge higher prices for "upgrades" that didn't work as well or even properly), and I still hanker after the way SystemWorks used to get on with the job of cleaning things up without too much fuss. That said, the core functions in TUP2008 do work effectively. The defrag tool takes a while to run, but the PC does speed up noticeably afterwards. The utility for speeding up or optimising the web connection and/or tuning Windows also seems to make a noticeable difference. TUP2008 also gives shortcuts to tuning the system which you can access via My Computer. For non-techie people TUP2008's way of doing this, especially as it also offers "roll-back" options if you don't like the end results, may be judged preferable. There are also tools for altering the look and feel of Windows. Some of these can be a little system-hungry but if you have plenty of RAM they do look quite good. Overall, I'm very statisfied with the way TUP2008 works, and think it's a comprehensive package for the price.
Excellent set of PC Tools June 17, 2008 A. A. Jones (England, UK) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
I was looking for a program like this for a while. I wanted something that just fixed things without other unwanted utilities like back-up and Anti-virus. Its a bit like Norton utilities used to be. The program is very easy to install and use. Once installed, you can carry out a 1-click maintenance, which can attend to all kind of common problems. There are also quite a few other utilities included for improving performance. Very difficult to go wrong with no annoying activation requirements. I wish I had saw it here prior to buying it direct from the Tune-up website, as its half the price from Amazon.

I bought Tune Up Utilities 2008 on the strenght of reviews, mainly of the 2007 version, and one which referred to the 2008,and thought maybe this is what I need:my computer continually crashed, usually needing three or more attempts to start up. The program loaded quickly and easily on XP though the computer crashed on installation, not I hasten to add, the fault of the program.Once the diagnostics were run,I had 484 faults, and corrected,it`s up to the individual to find and use the other facilities. There is plenty of help to guide you through the many "Tune Up" tools, and these certainly made a big difference:my computer now starts a lot more quickly and reliably. You don`t need a lot of experience to be able to use this program successfully,it`s quite straightforward.I`ll give it 9 out of 10.
A Very Useful Tool September 8, 2008 James B. Spink (Kent, UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is a useful tool which will find and cure many problems with your computer. I've used both the 2006 version and this one for 2008 - both are good but have subtle differences. The new version does NOT work with Windows 98 or ME and the 2006 version is not optimised for Vista. If you want to see if you like it you can download a free 30 day trial of the full version from the company's website, but Amazon currently offer it for considerably less if you decide to keep it! If you buy a copy after trialling you just need to enter the activation code to make the trial version permanent. It can be loaded on more than one computer and is extremely good value for money at the time of writing. You can use the 1 Click option everyday to keep things running smoothly, and the more advanced features get things sorted out and optimised more occasionally. Suitable for novices and geeks alike, does what it says it will - highly recommended.
Good Housekeeping October 20, 2008 JA Foxton (Worcester, England) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
At the price, currently under 13, it seems good value. It is a useful addition and will help to keep your system running efficiently with the minimum of fuss. Evidently it is also certified for Windows Vista though I have only run it under Windows XP Pro. It allows the user to improve the performance of their system, free up disk space, rectify problems (including recovering accidentally deleted files) and customise the appearance of Windows. It also supplies additional tools which will, for instance, permit the secure deletion of sensitive files. Once someone has explored the capabilities of this package, I think they will probably settle on a handful of useful functions and rely heavily on the '1-Click Maintenance' feature. This can be scheduled to run automatically in the background and this should keep your system in an optimised state. The '1-Click Maintenance' assesses the performance in three areas. It surveys the registry to identify any problems, finds any temporary files which can be deleted to free up space and also assesses the degree of fragmentation on any hard disks. If you have started the program manually then you can opt to have any problems corrected automatically. The first run did take some time to complete and I would advise anyone to find a time when they can leave their computer for a couple of hours to complete any defragmentation. The package also appears to monitor changes which have been made and allows the user to reverse these changes if required. This inspires a degree of confidence to experiment. I made quite a number of changes and, though it might just be a coincidence, later found that one shortcut had disappeared from the desktop and one icon had disappeared from the taskbar. It was easy to reinstate both but my advice would be to proceed slowly with any changes. Also I doubt that it would be possible to recover files which have been securely deleted - so that function should be approached with greater caution.
