PDF Converter Professional 3.0

Difficuly layout, different words on menus, yakes a while to get to know.

Not overgood at converting PDF back to word.

The important issue is its called Scansoft PDF convertor Pro, as said it does not convert overwell, the Form recognition seems good, this is one reason I bought it.

BUT I needed a complete program as their advert says, it does not scan documents at all, I think this is the only product in their range that does not scan !

Price is not bad, but dont be mislead by wording of "Complete Program" its not.

The form filler is good - works well but that's about the only thing which does. Conversion is poor. Editing within PDF - can't do it and the instructions for embedded text don't work. Installation was problematic(had to un-install and re-install 3 times) Support poor - either phone America or pay for email support (which is a bit much I think if the support required is to do with activating and installing a product just purchased!).For documents with mixed text and graphics - forget it!

I'm not sure we're talking about the same product. Mine installed first time, and subsequent online support was quick, friendly and free. It didn't solve every isssue, but nothing I couldn't work around.

Form filling and conversion to editable format is not a major feature for me. If you want a PDF creator that allows you to scan/print to a single assembled document that you can restructure/reformat, this will do the job.

I agree the interface isn't all that intuitive; you have to learn how to to combine text and graphics, and it doesn't have the look and feel of conventional MS windows programs, but it does a workmanlike job.

There is too much tendency for folk to want top of the range features at budget prices. How often do you see in software reviews the comment: "It's great but why do you have to pay for it?"

If you want the Full Monty, and can afford it, buy the industry standard Acrobat (and I doubt Adobe would claim it is totally fault free) otherwise PDF Converter Pro is a good affordable alternative - I wouldn't be without it.

The reviews seemed good and the product worked well for about a month but now the dreaded runtime error message comes up two out of three times it is loaded (see Amazon.com in the USA for lots of comments on this). Also it is incredibly slow to load as the PDF viewer in Internet Explorer and does not display all pages in linked PDF files (good old free Acrobat reader has no problems with the same files). I was going to equip my company with this product but now I will have to buy Acrobat Pro full versions to be sure of a timely response and software that does not hang on loading. Overall PDF Converter Pro is good enough for infrequent home use where time is not money but I would not recommend it for business use - I will uninstall it and pay out for Adobe's offering to be sure of stabiity and performance.
