Good for basic vocabulary March 5, 2007 R. Servini (england) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The first CD is basic Japanese. There is a pie chart and you select what vocabulary you want to learn- numbers (0-10), clothes, food, colours etc. There is a man and women who say these phrases, a picture of the word in the background, a Japanese script & European pronunciation of each word. You can then test yourself there is a smiling animated character who deals out picture cards saying each one as he deals them out and asks you to select one. Alternatively you can test yourself by the man & woman asking you to select the appropriate image e.g. apple, pear amongst other items. The vocabulary is limited. Only single words are learnt. not sentences The 2nd CD is a joke . You are expected to understand all of the Japanese instructions, there is a Japanese script with no translation. There are a number of games , but all the instructions and questions are in Japanese so I have no idea what they are asking me to do. Two animated figures pop up speaking in Japanese expecting you to understand what they are saying. This is for advanced students and certainly not a follow up to the 1st CD . You might as well throw this 2nd CD in the bin . I don't know how the cover of the CD can claim to be the most effective learning in the world, since this is not true. 1st CD has limited vocabulary. The 2nd is for advanced students who have used more than the 1st CD to be able to understand the rapidly spoken and Japanese script. It is no use being totally immersed in a foreign tongue if you don't understand what they are saying. You might as well go to Japan and not buy this language course in the first case. By the end of this course you will be able to speak one or two words, and certainly not speaking any sentences. I have given this course 1 star.
Almost as good as a class. February 14, 2004 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
This version for learning japanese, does exactly what you need it to. It does exactly what it says on the tin! - more or less. I brought it because it was a bargain, and I am satisfied with it. Just try it, and if not, send it back! Arigato, gozaimasu. Daijoubu desu ka!
