| Customer Reviews: Great coffee solution March 27, 2009 Jernau Gurgeh (Leeds UK) 29 out of 29 found this review helpful
Finally I have purchased one of these. A friend has had one for years and yet I could never find a shop that stocked them. I love proper coffee but am the only one in my house who drinks it and so a full cafetiere is a bulky wasteful item. This is also far faster when I'm wanting a single cup before I head out to work in the morning. It is simple to use and the insulated mug prevents the coffee from cooling down too much whilst you wait. Sure, you can get the occasional coffee ground in the bottom of your drink but I find that with my cafetiere as well.
My only problem is the size of the cup. The plunger apparatus and grounds occupy the bottom of the mug and the max fill line is quite a long way from the top. Look at the picture. The colour change on the outside of the mug is NOT the max fill line. The max fill line is BELOW the top of the handle. Fill the mug past this line and coffee will leak out around the little tab at the top of the plunger. It all adds up to a coffee mug that holds only half a standard mug of coffee.
I love the thought behind this mug, I use mine every day and it is far superior to instant coffee. I just wish it was a little larger
Absolute must for coffee lovers November 18, 2008 Mrs. K. Mcbirnie (East Riding, UK) 15 out of 15 found this review helpful
Over the last two years several of these mugs have found their way in to our house, and we now use them on a daily basis. Not only does your freshly brewed coffee stay hot (unlike a traditional cafetiere,) these mugs allows you to make one just one cup at a time. I honestly couldn't function without my smart cafe mugs - we even took two in our suitcases when we went to Skiathos this summer!
Awesome! January 20, 2009 A. Walker (Nottingham, UK) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
Have had a couple of these mugs for about 3 years now (one for work and one for home!) and I love them! Admittedly there can be a few grounds at the bottom, but the convenience is worth the odd bit to nibble on.
Love it, couldn't live without it.
ideal for one February 3, 2010 R. Beadle (Cumbria, UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This mug is ideal when there's just one person wanting a cup of cafetiere coffee. The only reason I haven't given 5 stars is it's true, you do get some grounds escape into the coffee, but it's not a big problem! The way to minimise this is not to overfill the cup, then only a few grounds get loose. When you've plunged it you can top up with milk or more water to just above the red/black line without spillage. Then the cup holds the same amount of coffee to drink as a regular mug. The insulated mug keeps the coffee nice and hot for a decent time, and there's no need to pre-warm the cup. Mine's given good service over many years, and I've just bought another.
Excellent bit of kit for Java lovers! July 23, 2009 C. Gordon 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I've had my SmartCafe Mug for almost two years now, and it's still giving good service. My only gripe (as many other people have said), is that it's a touch small, but I can't bring myself to knock a star off because of it. If one cup isn't enough, it's easy enough to make another after all (surely people haven't got so lazy that the though of making a second cup is just TOO much...?).
The fact it's insulated does help to keep the coffee hot for longer, despite the lack of a lid, and the plastic construction doesn't bother me in the slightest- it's the coffee that's important here, not the cup I'm drinking it from!
Yes, if you fill it past the 'MAX' line, you will get grounds slipping past the filter, but that's your fault, not the mug's - just don't overfill it! Occasionally the odd few specks of grounds do find their way past regardless of where you fill it to, but come on, a few grounds never hurt anyone - what are you, a sissy?
It's hard wearing and won't smash into a million bits if you drop it, as a result it means it can go anywhere you can - whether you work in an office, on a building site or in a garage. You can even take it camping, thus negating the need to drink instant whilst you're 'roughing' it!
In short, it's great. (And now I'm off to the kitchen to make use of mine for the second time today!)
