Why is it so hard to but this in the UK? August 23, 2007 Ray Gordon (Surrey UK) 10 out of 12 found this review helpful
This barbecue has everything that the much vaunted Weber does not. A huge cooking area, a lid that stays up instead of needing propping up somewhere, an adjustable cooking rack so that you can vary the temperature as the fuel is used up, the ability to seal the unit when you have finished cooking and save the fuel to use again. This is far and away the best charcoal barbecue available - you used to be able to but it on John Lewis but it has all but disappeared now from anywhere in the UK. I only found this by chance and am delighted to be able to order a new one to replace my twenty three plus year old existing one Use Australian Heat beads for fantastic results
Be careful not to miss the sunshine! May 9, 2008 Mr. Anthony J. Wilson 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is my first barbecue, and when it arrived in lots of little pieces, my three year old was very excited that we would be using it that night, as I had promised. However disaster struck when I looked at the assembly instructions. They are very badly photocopied/translated and are so small it is nigh on impossible to read. Certain nuts/bolts were missing and I eventually cobbled the thing together as best as I could. Two days later, and nearing the end of some precious time off, (thankfully with the sun still shining!) It is constructed. The product works OK but PLEASE be aware that if you want to catch a good spell in our British weather, expect to take a while building this thing. I am a seasoned 'flatpacker' but this was woefull. (I also contacted the company asking urgently for them to email instructions. I am still waiting). Nice enough barbie - so far - but let down by cheap photocopies, poor customer service and bad quality control.
Nice BBQ - hard to build June 20, 2008 Mr. K. Kufluk (London) The previous comment is not kidding. This thing is hell to put together. It took about 3 hours of hard work. Here's what you will need to know: 1) The screws are described by size. When it says you need "5 x 15mm", it means you need the M5x15 screws. It does not mean you need five of them. In the first instruction, it incorrectly says "6 x 15mm", but it means 2 of M5x15mm. 2) If you're looking for some missing screws, don't worry - they may already be put toegther. I found the wooden handle (24) already attached to the height adjuster (16), which is part of Step6. On the first page, 24 is shown on the diagram near 14. This is not correct - it is the wooden handle near 16. 3) Step 4 says "5 x 8mm", but it means "5 x 15mm". 4) Step 6 - Fix the height adjuster teeth-down (check the pic on the box) 5) Step 8 - refers to pic 16, should be pic 6. 6) In general, the diagrams are too small to see which way round ot put the bolts. It is significant, however, as the "stub" can intefere. I had to switch several after assembly when lid did not move smoothly or tray caught on way up/down. 7) Step 8 is quite confusing - but you can get there. Stick the ends through the front, under the handle first and thread through. If anyone thinks this is a small task, they will probably end up with it stashed in their shed forever, half-built. A bit of pre-assembly from the manufacturer of this would help tremendously.
