AXT Shredder August 9, 2005 77 out of 77 found this review helpful
240 is a lot of money to turn large bits of wood into small bits of wood, but this is value for money. If, like me, you've bought one of those 70 "value" shredders, you probably never want to shred another piece of wood again. What with all the forcing the branches in, declogging it, opening up to remove blockages and so on, it really is hard work. The design was poor and the application even worse. Quite frankly, i've got better ways to spend my Sundays. This machine works on a different principle and features what looks like a large cog which draws the branches in and crushes them against a metal plate. This produces around 1cm sized chunks of wood. It's spectacular on large, long branches and was shredding them (without my 'help') faster than i could cut them off the tree. It struggles a little bit more on leafy stuff simply because there isn't the bulk to be drawn into the shredder. The one teeny-weeny problem is that it could do with being higher off the floor because it fills garden bags so quickly. If you're looking for a shredder, strongly consider this. Its expensive, but don't make the false economy of buying a cheap one just because you don't think you'll use it that often - you'll just end up wasting your time and money.

This is a serious bit of rugged kit. One gets the feeling that it has been designed. It is sturdy in use yet readily mobile. If necessary it can be lifted. It really is quiet. The electrics operate through a beefy pair of switches fed by a quality cable. The bag is just the optimum size so that when it is full, it can be carried and emptied without busting a gut. The shredding rate is just about right for the operator to continuously pick up stuff and feed it into the machine. First class! I would also recommend the Wilkinson Sword 220134 loppers to go with it as they both have similar cutting capacities.
Simply the best August 12, 2005 Doug (York, England) 55 out of 56 found this review helpful
This is an excellent shredder. It is very quiet in operation, in particular compared to my old shredder, which sounded like a jet aircraft on take off. To a certain extent branches feed in by themselves, which means it can be left shredding while you make the next cut.It is very resistant to blocking up, and can take some astonishingly thick branches. The mulch is well chopped, and composts well, or if woody can be used as a mulch straight away. If I had to find a negative, the the frame can tend to sag a little after use, (if you push the branches down with too much enthusiasm) and you need a good garden bag to collect the chippings, otherwise the power lead is good and long, it has a reverse gear if it jams and is quite simply superb. But be warned within hours you will be wandering the garden looking to see wgat you can shred!

I have to say not being a power tool person that it works like a dream, I had a rather large and intimidating mound of cuttings from last year, (one of those never got quite round to finishing jobs!) the shredder worked like a trooper. The branches and twigs were a little soggy and the snails made a bit of a crunch but went through(I tried to remove most of them). It jammed a couple of times but I just reversed the blade and hey presto it's going again. As a Sunday morning hangover gardener the 'Quiet' shredder does the business!!!
Bosch after-sales service January 24, 2006 47 out of 49 found this review helpful
I bought this machine from Amazon after reading the good reviews on the Amazon website. I saved more than £100 compared with Screwfix! I queried Screwfix's price and they said it was correct, and they do not do Price Checks. The machine was very easy to assemble, just fit the stand and the wheels and away you go. My machine jammed after just 30 minutes use. The reverse switch wouldn't work. I couldn't remove the front cover to get at the blockage. I rang Bosch. They sent DHL to collect it the next day. Just a week later DHL delivered a new machine. I'm very pleased with Bosch's after-sales service. Here are some suggestions: The machine should have a Mains On warning light for safety. The machine should be supplied with a pair of safety glasses. These are essential and cheap to supply, but not everybody has a pair to hand. Stihl supply safety glasses with their strimmers, so why not Bosch? The machine should only be used for wood up to 25mm diameter, which it will quickly devour. It struggles with larger sizes, although Bosch claim it will work up to 38mm diameter. The machine should only be used with fresh wood, not with dry wood. The Amazon advert does not show a collection bag, but the machine is supplied with one.
