Hozelock Aqua Control Water Timer
During the summer months one can never predict how long the drier periods will last and regular watering with a hand held hose can be quite a chore. Having already tried a Gardena product with frequent failures, despite the replacement of several electronic LCD modules, I almost gave up in despair when I was told by a friend that he'd never experienced problems like this with his Hozelock controller.
I wanted something simple and reliable so I was persuaded to try the Hozelock Aqua Control. Battery costs are lower because it doesn't require the more expensive 9 volt battery I had in my previous controller. I found it simple to setup and it has now been operating for more than a month without a problem. I am confident I can look forward to a reliable watering system that will keep my plants watered throughout the summer ... well done Hozelock!
Works WellMay 25, 2009 P. Dean(Cambridge UK) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
I've used this timer for about a week now and it seems to work very well. I only really need it for watering the greenhouse and veg patch while I'm away and, by using a hose Y junction and a couple of sprinklers, it does the job well. If you want more complex timing options then you will have to go for the next model up but this one is fine for my needs.
Be very warySeptember 6, 2009 Neil Bird(Kent, UK) 21 out of 22 found this review helpful
Bought one of these through an Amazon retailer & left it running OK for a fortnight's holiday, but when we returned it was dead.
Opening it up, it had leaked water into the battery compartment, trashing itself and the batteries. Not sure where the water got in, as the box seal was good, as were the screw seals. Looks like it came in through a hole between the battery compartment and the controller, so there must have been an internal leak that didn't flush itself out of the hole at the bottom.
I see another model being listed as a leaker as well, so not sure what to replace it with.

I have only had this timer for about 1 month, and up to now have used it principally to keep all my container plants watered whilst on holiday.
As someone else commented, it just does what it says on the packaging. Concerns about setting the "start time" are not really problems at all, because the timer can be re-adjusted without any problem or skill, to start whenever you like.
If you purchase one, I hope you will be as satisfied as I am.
Second thoughts - April 2010. Over winter I found the battery compartment full of water. I dried it out and replaced the batteries but the unit is dead. Don't know what went wrong, but I'll risk buying another one and take it in long before winter starts. I hope that this problem will not then re-occur. I've noticed others have reported a similar fault.

design faultJuly 27, 2009 K. Evans(Berkshire, England) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
This product only worked for one week before water entered the unit and rendered it unusable. Luckily for us it worked the week we were on holiday but stopped the day after we returned. The batteries inside had all corroded and even though there was a rubber seal and the batteries were suspended in mid air the unit still let in water and damaged them. I read that the more expensive model had the same problem too so I expect its a manufacturers design fault. I now have to go through the process of obtaining a refund from Amazon.
