fantastic and worth the wait December 4, 2007 P manns (London UK) 39 out of 41 found this review helpful
I first saw the RDI in the press a couple of months ago and contacted Intempo to try to buy. To be fair to them they did say it would be towards the end of November but Im an impatient sort when I set my mind on something! Intempo contacted me a week ago and suggested I order through Amazon as they were close to delivery. (good customer service by the way.) The little beauty arrived this morning and I must say I am very pleased it was well worth the wait. The unit itself is a nice bookshelf size, in glossy black, it came with all relevant adapters and both euro and UK plugs. When turned on the unit automatically searched for all DAB stations (found 48 and Im in an amber area)at this point the unit defaults to DAb, to switch to fm, or Ipod you simply press the mode botton. Sound on DAB is very impressive and when playing in Ipod mode even more so. Intempo claim the delay was caused by adding tweeters, if this is the case then good call! classic FM sounded fantastic at top end. Good quality remote control, amazing sound, DAB included all for 129.99. I would recommend this unit to everyone. Intempo has a winner on their hands I only hope they haven't underestimated demand.
RDI Supremo! December 4, 2007 Mr Simon 33 out of 36 found this review helpful
I have been waiting for someone to bring out an iPod dock with a dab radio built in for ages and here it is! It arrived this morning and I couldn't wait to get it out of the box (a little treat for myself before Christmas!). I bought it to have in my bedroom as it has alarm function (and snooze and sleep which I was unaware of, extra bonus!); I can wake up to my iPod or DAB radio, brilliant! The remote control's handy, you can control everything - volume, treble, bass, switch between stations, control the menu of your iPod. The sound is astounding, it has a sub and tweeters and I was amazed out how loud it goes and how good it sounds at high volume in such a tiny unit. I'm going to buy one for my Mum and Dad for Christmas, I bought them an iPod last year and this is the perfect accompaniment.
must have product of the year! December 5, 2007 Ridgie (Newqay) 31 out of 33 found this review helpful
Totally agree with the other reviews here, I am one of the lucky ones that received my RDI today and its fantastic. Unbelievable sound quality, bass and treble controls on the remote with built in DAB. I have been looking to replace my old Sony Micro system for months without success, why has it taken so long for a manufacturer to finally add a radio (DAB is a bonus) to higher end speakers. Downloaded Killers - Sawdust, turned up the volume EXCELLENT! Cheers
A few words of caution December 16, 2007 Music Listener (Norfolk UK) 12 out of 15 found this review helpful
I would like to inject a level of caution into all these rave reviews. Based on them I have bought an RDI through amazon. My initial feelings are not 5 star. I listen almost exclusively to classical music, though of many different kinds. Out of the box the unit is harsh in the top end. After 24 hrs of continual playing in a back room (not nearly long enough I know) the unit is mellowing as would be expected of speaker units but some other nasties are rearing their heads. Principal among these is a buzzing in DAB mode. FM is generally better although that would appear to have some kind of automatic noise suppression circuitry in operation. I have a Pure 1S to hand so have been able to compare side by side. So if you listen to music such as classical and other sound sources where there are times of quiet or silence, you may find that these faults are more than you can live with. Perhaps it is the best of a very small bunch if you want something with DAB, ipod integration and better sound but if you are expecting the best that it should be possible to make in such a small package at this price then Intempo may not be there for you yet. I look forward to hearing What Hifi's thoughts on the product.
great purchase with a big sound! December 6, 2007 Mrs James 11 out of 13 found this review helpful
OK, So I searched Comet, Currys and John Lewis, no stock even though the advert in the Times said they were the stockists! Surely if a product is advertised the stock should be available??? Anyway, niggle over! the RDI arrived from Amazon yesterday and Im not disappointed! Having seen the photos I was already impressed by its looks but in the flesh it really is very lovely. My husband has a Sony Walkman that is easily attached via the line in ( it only charges Ipods, like most other docks) the sound is quite simply Amazing! I am also delighted that DAB has been added to this product as it means that I can listen to radio 2 in fantastic stereo sound. We are normally a BOSE houshold but I wouldn't hesitate to purchase other products by Intempo and would recommend this product as other reviewers have done.
