Great TV! December 16, 2007 JudasCow 27 out of 28 found this review helpful
Very pleased with this TV as a replacement for an aging 29" 4:3 Sony CRT Pricewise it's between 80 - 200 cheaper than the highstreet, plus delivery in two days. Setup was a dodddle and picture quality is ace. Sky via RGB is excellent as is non-upscaled DVD (though I'm waiting on delivery of an upscaling player to give the screen a real workout). iPod video also works very well. Freeview is OK, but to be honest I'm not sure my aerial is upto the task of providing a decent signal for the tuner, though not really an issue as Sky is my primary choice of TV. Can't comment on PS3/XBox as they're still on the Christmas list! All in all, a very nice piece of kit and well worth the price.
A great TV with a mind of its own December 23, 2007 J. Lynch (Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, UK.) 25 out of 28 found this review helpful
I chose this Sony TV following the recommendations on this site and also some wider research. The reason for my purchase was to upgrade from my JVC 26" lcd to give me the benefit of a much larger viewing area. I also decided to purchase a Sony TV as I already had a Sony surround sound system. The previously purchased JVC is an excellent all round lcd TV (also from Amazon some 18 months ago) and therfore the Sony had a tough act to follow if it was to impress me. Having had the Sony TV now for about one month my first impression is that the quality of the picture is not quite as good as the JVC. Whether this has anything to do with a larger screen or not I do not know. Having said that the picture quality of the Sony is very good and I am not disappointed with it. My daughter and I unpacked the Sony TV and plugged it in and turned it on, as it burst into life the TV took on a life of its own. It started to tune itself in and communicated with the DVD and Video player!! Within a matter of minutes the TV was set up and operational, so different from the days of trying to programme a TV with a manual and several mugs of tea! Sadly on a negative point, when the TV is turned on from the stand-by mode the remote is non-operational for about two minutes. This can be intensely annoying if the previous viewer has left the TV set on a high volume or channel you do not wish to watch. Frustration can settle in whilst trying to get the remote to repond to your request. This is however easily remedied by operating the controls manually which are positioned on the top of the television. Once the TV has 'warmed-up' the remote responds immediately. The TV offers a significant array of inputs making the connection of most additional equipment easy. Overall I would state the Sony is an excellent TV and apart from the remote control issue mentioned above will not disappoint.
Great TV, great service / price. December 12, 2007 hirsty (London, UK) 22 out of 23 found this review helpful
I'd been holding off buying an HD TV for as long as possible - I still love my faithful Sony 24" Trinitron... Finally bit the bullet so I could play PS3 in high def as intended. Blown away by the picture quality with a high def source, though still not entirely happy with the Freeview / Humax picture. Amazon had the best available price for this TV, ordered Saturday night & delivered Monday morning - doesn't get any better than that. Very pleased.
Very poor service from Amazon April 21, 2008 R. Bell (Carrickfergus, Northern Ireland) 22 out of 50 found this review helpful
I ordered this item to replace my old TV which had after many years given up the ghost. It was intended as a treat for the family. The order website offered delivery by the Saturday if I opted for first class service so I paid the small extra charge. Despite being marked as in stock the package was not even despatched until Sunday afternoon. The parcel was despatched via HDNL. The tracking website showed on Tuesday that it had been delivered. This was news to me. After embarassing myself by asking all my neighbours for a pracel they hadn't taken in I enquired of amazon where my television was. By this stage I feared it may have been stolen. I was eventually informed via email that the website was only indicating that HDNL were saying that it had been delivered...to the northern distribution hub of HDNL. Wonder how often amazon think their parcel has been delivered by the courier when in fact it is nestling in a warehouse somewhere? Thursday evening I was told it would be delivered Friday afternoon. I took the afternoon off work. They had tried to deliver in the morning instead. When I contacted HDNL I was told I had been told the wrong information by the HDNL person who called me. The van had moved on and would not return to my town that day - in spite of the HDNL local depot being in the town where I live. The next time they could deliver was the following Wednesday - 12 days after the order was placed. Having paid for first class delivery I feel a little bit cheated. I was so glad to have finally got the TV that I didn't have the heart to return it as unsatisfactory. It is as technically good as indicated in other reviews but the broken promises over delivery really really soured the opinon I previously held of Amazon. I will not buy anything like this again from Amazon. After all this no-one even had the decency to offer a refund on the first class delivery charge, one of themany benefits of large scale retailing I suppose. Lesson learned. Never again.
'simply the best' March 2, 2008 Mr. Kenneth R. Challans (Spalding, UK) 20 out of 21 found this review helpful
WOW! .... after having had a cheapy version from A*** and not being pleased at all i.e. piture clarity hazy voice not in time with the picture, sound very fuzzy and a remote control which seemed like it had been invented by chimps I had had enough, I got on to my PC searched out the best deal with a Sony product to match my Sony video and DVD recorder. I have to say I am not disappointed with my choice it is such a good TV, its like going into a store and seeing something which when you get it home doesnt seem quite the same, only difference this is better the clearest picture I have ever seen, a sound system which makes it seem as though the orchestra is in the room with you,a remote control which is very user friendly and only needs the slightest of touches and so many 'plug in goodies for your PC,Surround Sound,Camcorder etc makes the total price for this quality item very good value for money indeed.
