Now this is going to be long winded,but bear with me,because it may save you having to trawl through hundreds of reviews like I did!....I bought a Creative Stone mp3,from Amazon at a very,very good price,for my 10yr old grandson at Xmas and thought I would replace my MD player for portable music. Now I NEVER buy anything without thorough research on available products,so read EVERY review ,good and bad,I could find on MP3's! In the end decided to go with this Sony NWZA816B. Pleased with it?! BLOWN AWAY more like!!! Absolutely BRILLIANT!! Now,the most important criteria for me is to get the BEST in sound quality,otherwise I'm not interested!! I've always been that way because I love music whatever the genre,and I have a very broad taste!! Last year I bought a new HiFi (that cost a 4 figure sum),and was mightily impressed with the sound quality,and congratulating myself on my astute purchase! A very happy man!! Then I bought this MP3! Now I find myself,more often than not, listening to the Sony MP3(which cost me 70 from Amazon) at home instead of my expensive HiFi!!!(In fact I'm listening to it now!) The sound quality is really THAT good!! I heard bits of music and instruments from my CD's on the HiFi that I had never heard before! Now after downloading the same CD's to the Sony,I can hear even MORE from them!! It's AMAZING!! And downloading them in the first place is so easy that the afore mentioned 10yr old can do it too!! Drag and drop with Windows Media 11 is A DODDLE!! The supplied earphones are very good,but I find in-ear phones uncomfortable after too long,so I have Panasonic RP-HT51 on-earphones. (Excellent too!) And so,if you're still with me,ignore any slightly 'iffy 'reviews you might have read on this product,just take in what people have said in the 4/5 star ones! I promise you that you will NOT be sorry if you buy one!!!
If I have one gripe,its this.....If I'd known I was going to be this blown away,I'd have coughed up another 30 and bought the 8GB version!!Damn it!!!
Not taking anything away from what I said previously in my original review,cos its all still true,the NWZA816B is a fantastic piece of kit,but.......the 8GB version for ONLY another tenner now!?! I just had to have one!!! And its just as brilliant,but with TWICE the capacity!! My other half is just as chuffed as me.....she now has an NWZA816B that somebody let her have for nowt!! And boy is she grinning about it!! Lucky her,hey!?! We're BOTH in music heaven now!

First thing you notice is just how small it is! The design is nice, not anything too different, but very nice to look at and hold.The supplied headphones are great.
Video quality is astounding, but the sound quality is what sets it apart from the rest. its in a class of its own.
Also, good news for ps3 owners, as they go together perfectly. Example: import cd on to ps3, plug walkman in, then copy over. simple.
works the same for videos and pictures.
the few cons that i can muster arent too serious:
1:yes there is no radio, but for me thats not an issue.
":there's no on the fly deleting, again, not too much of an issue, as i dont really see the point.
3:no screen protector or case...dissapointing
buy now, you will not be disapointed.
9.5/10
p.s: buy a case or screen protector as soon as possible.

Never a fan of the Ipod, I bought a 1 gb Sony MP3 a while back that used the SonicStage software (which wasn't as bad as most people seemed to think, but was clumsy). Also it had no rechargeable battery. Now, finally, Sony have got it right. An Ipod beater with drag-and-drop and an outstanding battery life. On top of that, it's simple to use (not even looked at the manual yet) and has a sound quality to die for. It's taken them a while to get there but, at last, Sony have cottoned-on to what the market needs and supplied it.
I bought a refurb version from Hyperfi (which is absolutely perfect, just no box) but I see the Amazon *new* price is nearly the same now - I'm going to buy another for my wife now.
Oh, and I also bought one of those FM transmitter gizmos for the car - the sound through the car radio is even better than playing CD's.

I've had my new toy just a couple of days and it's so brilliant I can highly recommend it to anyone looking for alternatives to the ipod nano. Sony have completely revitalised the Walkman brand and done themselves proud with this one.
This A series is supremely easy to use when it comes to music & mp3 files. No special software required... it's plug & play. You just hook up your new player to your PC (no idea how easy this is to use with a mac) with the supplied USB cable and your player will start charging straight away. Once you're connected, you can either synchronise your music with files in your Windows Media Player if you use it (you'll need v.11 supplied with the player on CD or downloadable from the net) - just click a button and away you go - or you can drag and drop files from your C drive directly onto the player. Couldn't be easier!! So, when it comes to music it is fool proof.
There is a BUT... I'm still trying to work out how to get DVD files onto the player. The player doesn't come with conversion software to convert your DVD files into MP4's compatible with the player so you'll need to find (and buy if you want something reliable) the software to do this. I have the software now and have converted some files into MP4's successfully, I've put them on my player but it's coming up with "file not recognised" messages. I'm clearly doing something wrong but I'm not a novice at this kind of stuff and it's not simple to work out. Sony really should have supplied some help here with the player - some software would have been nice, and some simple set up guidelines. After all, it is a "video" Walkman.
That's my only grumble. I primarily bought my player for music (replacing my much out-dated iriver mp3 player). This is world's apart. It sounds fantastic. I'm not so keen on the earphones supplied as I don't find them that comfortable but have some other Sony in-the-ear earphones I bought just a short while ago. I've put 100 CDs on the player so far & still have 2.5GB of space left to play with. You can use it for storing photos too if you want. The Spiderman movie trailer that comes installed on the player is crystal clear. I'm sure I'll get my video files to work soon...
As an mp3 player I can totally TOTALLY recommend it. So easy to use & such fantastic sound quality. What more can you want? Super sleek and slim and the battery seems to just keep on going at the moment - just a brief plug into the PC tops it up for hours. I went for a deal where I got my player with a free leather case and neck strap - I can recommend these. In fact, I don't see why they don't come with as standard, as they're kind of essential of you're using it on the move (and who isn't?!).
Walkman have proven that they're "back" with this!

Fantastic mp3 sound quality (and picture quality on video), plus amazing battery life. No software to complicate loading my music any more - just drag and drop ... couldn't be easier!
