Fantastic! August 23, 2007 Mr. C. I. Stinson (Coventry UK) 40 out of 45 found this review helpful
Many people complain about the sound quality of these headphones, but lets put things into perpective. You should consider these headphones if: - You want to replace standard issue headphones with a good quality pair, for under 20 - You listen to your music while on the move - Normal headphones are constantly falling out - You record your MP3's at 128kbps like everyone else These headphones are probably not for you if: - You record your MP3's at a higher data rate than 128kps - You're using these headpones to try to detect subtle sounds that only dogs and dolphins can hear - Listen for hours and hours on end As with most things in this world, you get what you pay for. If you set your expectations of a < 20 pair of headphones too high, you are obviously going to be disappointed. These are great headphones. They suit my needs perfectly.

I have tried a few different ear bud headphones for my Sony mp3 player, including expensive Shure ones but these are by far the best. Being a musician, I have to have a good sound in my hifi gear and have been searching for a while for decent sounding ear bud phones, with not a lot of success, until now. These from Sennheiser are punchy, with a rich deep bass and clear highs, true mid range. They were a bit fiddly to get the right fit to start with and the cables are a bit flimsy with but so were the rest. I was so pleased when I heard that full deep bass sound which is so much lacking on the others I tried. Full marks to Sennheiser but its what I have come to expect from this company as I use their phones in studio work. These are the biz and I would definately recommend them to any potential buyer, excellent value for money.

To be fair to those who have had problems they might not suit all tastes. But as a user of may high spec headphones eg Gardo, Sennheiser, AKG, Audioteknica,Sony and many more, These are one of the best in-ear headphones i have used. I have 4 sets of these after buying one set at dixons in the airport as i had forgot my sony in-ears and bought 3 pairs on amazon as at that time they were 30 in the airport now 25, As i use and often loose a lot of headphones. I think they are on par with the Sony's no problem, it comes down to personal choice as to which is best i like both but there is a differance. In my personal opinion the standard headphones that come most mp3 players are just acceptable and normally not a good fit in my ears. Out off the bud type headphones i find that the CX300 are one off the best. I have used Philips,Sony and Sennheiser of prices up to 40 and only found the Philips annoying to use over a long period all good on bass and overall sound. There is no noise cancelling in these headphones it is infact a block the better the headphones fit in your ears the less noise you get just like your fingers. My studio use headphones are Sennheiser HD25 150 and i consider these in-ears to be not far off in there sonic quality not quite there but not far. I have listened to expensive Bose noise cancelling headphones 300 and the noise cancelling is damaging the purity of the sound and this can be heard on the cymbals mainly but if you listen carfully it can be found all over the place. So to Sum up buy and try most of my friends now use these and love them if you don't someone you know will.
Mixed results... November 6, 2007 i wrote this (Bucks) 7 out of 9 found this review helpful
When you first open the packaging you can't help but be disappointed by these head phones: the wires feel cheap & nasty and they're not even symmetrical for goodness sake! It's not until you walk down a busy street listening to music at a reasonably low volume with cars rushing past that you start to see the value in the Sennheiser CX300s. The noise reduction works a treat. Of course if you want absolute silence you're not going to get in at this price. But I did notice significant improvements over ipod and sony head phones and it means that I am able to look after my hearing better by listening to music at much lower levels. But there is a downside: You hear every little noise coming through the wires. Even on a still day you can hear the effect of wind on the cables coming through the headphones. Also there are clear audible noises every time the wires knock against your clothes. On a windy day noises like this could cancel out the benefit of reduced environmental sounds. The sound quality is good but not that incredible compared with most bundled headphones. If you are expecting a vast improvement over ipod headphones you will be disappointed. Also, the Sennheiser CX300 is no good for Sony Ericsson users as for some reason they amplify background hiss from the phone's music player. I've tried this with 2 different models of SE Walkman phones and found that the bundled headphones gave quieter sounds but eliminated most of the hiss. Finally a couple of words on price: On Sunday I saw these head phones retail at 30 from the Sennheizer stand at the Stuff & What Hi Fi show. There is no way that the CX300's are good enough to warrant that kind of price tag. Even at 18 (current amazon uk price) they feel over priced because of the nasty wire. They are marginally better then standard ipod or Walkman head phones but not worth a lot of extra cash. I paid 14 and I think that price is a good reflection of the performance value of these headphones. In conclusion: the CX300 are good sounding headphones with noise reduction that works. But the overall value is let down by the nasty feel of the wires and excessive interference noises. They make a good replacement for broken or warn out ipod headphones but aren't worth buying as an `upgrade'. Sony Ericsson users should avoid them altogether.
Absolutely dreadful! September 28, 2007 Malcolm (London) 3 out of 13 found this review helpful
If you like playing "name that tune" by listening to the the distorted halo of high-frequency noise eminating from the person opposite you on the train's too-loud mp3 player, then these are the headphones for you. If you want to listen to your music with any bass or low-mid frequencies, then these are not. Boost all the bass and cut all the highs and it's still dreadful, if slightly less irksome to listen to. While I understand that the size of the drivers restricts the bass response, I'd still expect some low frequencies to be audible. And yes, I did try all three sets of ear fittings - the only frequency that changed was that with which they fell out of my ears. I have, quite literally, nothing good to say about them. Even the cable's too short to allow an mp3 player to be worn on a belt or, heaven forbid, carried in a bag. I'm deeply regretting giving away the cheap set that came with my player now -- the only thing that remains is to decide whether to consign them to landfill (kind of negating the whole "eco" label), give them to someone I don't like or, perhaps, try to reuse the components in some as-yet-to-be-determined way. I'd give them no-stars if I could. Avoid like the plague.
