I've had the Panasonic EZ27 for a week now and i'm well pleased with it. Definitely worth having the HDMI output option as it really does give a great picture when you connect it to a HD tv using a HDMI cable. Found it easy enough to use, mainly cos recording a programme is just a matter of finding it in the EPG (tv guide) and pressing 'ok'. would definitely recommend getting some DVD-RAM discs as they are faster to read and more versatile (you can delete parts of a recording, eg. adverts and you can watch a recording from a disc at the same time as recording something else). the freeview tuner responds quickly though the EPG can look a bit unattractive with its blocks of primary colours. overall, so far so good.
Decidely average and many restrictions. August 25, 2007 MaverikUK (London) 70 out of 84 found this review helpful
Nice looking item, easily installed and very promising with lots of connection possibilities. I purchased this to record my old VHS/MiniDV collection on to DVD, sadly it's not easy. The DV input keeps flashing a grey screen on the recording every few, random moments. That's OK I'll go for the Svhs connection then. Nope, that's no good either, it flashes up random "copy protected" messages concerning my home made video snaps, and stops recording! So finally I have the RCA inputs, ok so it's only VHS so the quality shouldnt matter that much. That works but you cannot put your own chapters in, for some obscure reason you can only do that on RAM discs!! So now all I have is a DVD recorder where all I can do is record a 3 hr tape in one hit and keeping my fingers crossed tightly!! Horrible. Finally the recorded DVDs seem to only come out in 4.3 which is a nuisance. I had a cheap Lite-On before and that was much easier and far less hassle. I contacted Panasonic about the problems and they basically said sorry, that's the way it works. The Freeview section and guide are excellent, making future timer recordings very easy indeed. Well impressed with that side of it. You can even switched the machine off and it remembers it's timer settings days later. I thought I'd go for a quality item this time as Lite-On are going down the pan, and I have been bitten. In future I'll just buy cheap and it wont hurt so much. Very disappointed with this purchase from DABS but unfortunately the returns procedure is so long winded it means I am stuck with it. It wasnt available from Amazon at the time or I would have bought it from them, as their returns service is a healthy 10/10.
Value for money December 19, 2007 Tomg (Manchester) 40 out of 40 found this review helpful
Have had the unit for two weeks and generally very pleased with it. Installation and operation of the main functions is very straight forward and the remote also operates most functions of my existing Panasonic TV. This is my first experience of Freeview and the picture is excellent. Quality of recordings is also excellent and the 'play whilst still recording' function of the DVD RAM discs is a great feature. My unit is a silent as they come; there is some low noise for a minute when first switched on and then silence. EPG is easy to use and record from, although if the programme is delayed or early you can miss bits. Best to use the EPG then manually add a few minutes. Have not yet used the HD upscaling as my TV is not HD. I know I will need a set top box when the analogue signal is turned off due to the single digital tuner but for now I can record digital and watch analogue and vice-versa. I would happly recommend this unit.
Great product May 11, 2008 Damien Herbert 34 out of 34 found this review helpful
This is a great DVD recorder and very good value for money. It's been very simple to use and after months of constant use, I have no complaints. The built in freeview gives both higher quality and a more consistent signal than my previous stand alone box and the menu is intuitive and easy to use, expecially for recording. Recording is as easy as a single button press once you've chosen the show you want. The recorder reads all kinds of discs and prompts you to format them when they require it. You can even create menus for your recordings through the recorder. Overall, I've been highly impressed with both the performance and ease of use, and I would recommend this as by far the best product in it's price range.

This DVD player does exactly and more than we had hoped for. It is easy to use and the picture quality when linked by HDMI to our TV is exceptional. What else is there to say?
