Boat not included February 4, 2008 Douglas Adams 18 out of 19 found this review helpful
In case you're concerned about the other Strand aerial (minus the built-in amplifier) getting all the 5-star attention - don't panic! Thanks to this (plus a small modification of my own), I am now receiving every Freeview channel available where other aerials and booster combinations failed. I liked the fact that you can plug it straight into the mains without the need for a bulky external 12v DC adapter, however there's a 12v DC input socket if you wish to use one, for say on a boat (not supplied). Furthermore, there's an input for an additional aerial on the back of the unit to add to the signal reception if you need it, although I understand that if you are in certain areas with multiple transmitter coverage, there is the possibility of interference if your aerials are trying to tune to the same channel coming from different transmitters, so I wouldn't advise you separate your signal inputs too much (keep all your aerials in the same room for example). What I did was to simply plug a spare telescopic whip (with a BNC/coax adapter you can buy via Amazon) straight into the back - thereby keeping it all in one unit - so I now have not two but three whip aerials of varying lengths all pointing in the same direction horizontally to the Crystal Palace transmitter, as well as the circular one resembling a dish with it's plastic cover on. Result? 100% rock solid reception. Not only that but at this price it's incredible value for money and some might say it looks rather cool too.
Better than the more expensive models February 21, 2008 Captain Wiggler 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
I have just bought one of these to watch freeview upstairs in our house. The previous aerial I used was a One For All SV 9150 which cost about 25 and also had a built in amplifier. However, based on the other review I thought this cheaper version was worth a go. With my old aerial I was able to pick up about half the channels but with this one I get them all. The reception is not perfect but it is certainly much better than it was. I would definitely recommend this aerial, sometimes cheaper is best!
cheap and working fabulous February 29, 2008 R. Brunner (London, SE27) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
I got my freeview box and it did not work when i plugged it into the rooftop aerial. My neighbour told me I should get myself an indoor one so I bought this one. It arrived, I plugged it in, and i have all channels working. It is the cheapest and it works just perfect. I should have done that years ago.
Disappointed April 23, 2008 G. Viggers 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Firstly, the service from the seller is excellent. Arrived very quickly and was packaged in both a box and bubble wrap envelope for protection. I bought this product on the strength of the reviews but must say I'm really disappointed. It's for use on a 19" HDTV in the bedroom - renting with no outdoor aerial. I already had an "All For One" aerial from Argos 30 and can only get about 30 Freeview channels (no ITV ones). I eagerly set up The Strand hoping for an improvement but I ended up with exactly the same channels after a re-tune. I also tried plugging in an extra aerial into the back of it but there was no improvement. In summary, if you don't have an aerial - this is as good as any other. If you already have one, then I'm not sure this will really improve things.
Bargain price - good performance April 10, 2008 R. Newman (Northants, England) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I am in a weak freeview area and could only pick up 2 digital channels using my external aerial (which is not a digital one). Using this indoor aerial I can now receive a dozen or more freeview channels on TV upstairs. The performance of this aerial is very good for the price, and I am very pleased with it.
