Durable, affordable and sound fantastic July 20, 2006 T. Marner (Powys, Wales, UK) 39 out of 39 found this review helpful
These are the latest in the list of successors to the Sony MDR-ED228 earbuds (which I've owned for roughly 7 years now and are still going strong), and it tells a little of their success in that Sony have continued the product line for so long! A product that seems to be standing the test of time in a constantly changing marketplace. Sound: The bass response is from these buds is excellent for their size and design, due somewhat to the oddly shaped rubber enclosure, and highs are still very clear and distinct. The ED21LP's block out a lot more of the background noise than standard earbuds and allow music to come through clearly even at low volumes. Don't expect the same kind of frequency response as in-ear-canal designs from Shure or Etymotic, but these earbuds almost seem to provide deeper and heavier bass response than professional grade earbuds. Excellent for dance tracks. Design: I don't personally get along with standard earbud style headphones, as due to their size and shape they irritate my ears over extended periods; however the ED21LP's earbuds seem to fit perfectly and are are easily taken in and out without working loose by themselves. The earbuds are also very lightweight, and I find them perfect for cycling or running. The soft rubber enclosure doesn't irritate at all, and fits snugly in the entrance to your ear canal without sitting too deep. This design feature also means that once you're familiar with them, it's incredibly easy to tell which earbud goes on which side without looking! Conclusion: If you're looking for something quite a bit better than the standard flat earbud headphone, and don't want to go to the extent (or expense!) of full-ear cans or in-ear-canal headphones, then these are for you. Overall, they're one of the best audio purchases I've made - highly recommended.
Excellent April 22, 2007 K. A. Daffarn 26 out of 26 found this review helpful
When I finally decided to give up on the headphones that came with my old CD player and buy some decent ones I had pretty specific requirements: they had to be comfortable, small and portable, able to block out some of the outside sound and have excellent sound quality with good strong bass, and all without breaking the bank. These fufill all those requirements exactly. They won't leave you completely dead to the outside world but they cut out enough noise that you won't deafen yourself trying to hear your music over passing traffic or the chatty couple behind you on the train and the sound quality they deliver is excellent, better than anything I've ever had before
Very Good, High quality earphones December 28, 2003 18 out of 20 found this review helpful
I am surprised after reading the other review of this about how badly they have been rated, maybe the user had a faulty set? The sony earphones I purchased are extremely comfortable, have a amazing sound, and a really smooth bass. I have only used them in conjunction with my Creative Zen Jukebox as of yet, and they sound fantasitc with the MP3s on it. The earphones are also billiant for listening to music in enviroments such as cars, buses and so on, as they are excellent at blocking out exterior noise. So you dont have to have them on at extreme volume to hear the music. I am very pleased with these earphones and would recommend them to others willingly.
Comfortable April 1, 2007 Katherine Millard (Dorset) 18 out of 19 found this review helpful
The most comfortable inear headphones that I have used. Stay in place when out and about.
Excellent... but. September 9, 2004 17 out of 18 found this review helpful
These earphones DO have excellent sound; And I dont quite understand how anyone could disagree with that fact. They are the best set of inner- ear headphones I have ever had; and as such will buy them again. The price here on amazon is fantastic ( 10 or more cheaper than some places I have seen this model) and they are worth a buy. HOWEVER...I noted that I would be buying them again.. That is not simply a retrospective statement. Mine broke. After about 8months of use the right ear stopped recieving all audio. Furthermore not only am I certain that I did not do this myself; but I have been informed by others who have bought both this and other models in the fontopia range that this has happened to them to. Basically; This reviewer would have given 5 stars if not for the somewhat limited lifespan. For inner-ear headphones there is really no alternative to Sony for quality; affordability and function.. But dont expect them tto last forever - because they probably wont.
