Not for everyone, but an awesome piece of kit! March 21, 2008 Mr. J. Mcclure (Lisburn, United Kingdom) 50 out of 50 found this review helpful
This is my review of the iPod Touch. Firstly, let me say how thin this thing is - it's even slimmer than the iPhone - but it still has a sense of being solid and well built. With a glossy black face and a mirrored metal back it continues the typical iPod quality feel. Where this one differs from the rest of Apple's offerings is in its outstanding range of capabilities. Not only can you listen to music, view photos and watch movies, but now you also have access to the internet via wifi, you can download songs straight to your iPod, surf Youtube, check weather, mail, stocks and even find your current position on Google maps. I found setting up a wifi connection and the Mail application both surprisingly straightforward. It's also worth noting that the Safari web browser coupled with the Touch's famous "Multi-Touch" display is simply the best portable internet I have ever used. It runs quickly, smoothly and is a joy to use. However, the most important part of any iPod is the sound quality and this one does not disappoint. If you have music encoded with a decent bit rate you will be in sonic nirvana. However, I have found that the audio equaliser settings make the music sound artificially coloured and are very much best left alone. To really enjoy your music you will have to buy a new set of headphones, as the earbuds that come with the Touch are quite frankly useless. If you upgrade to a quality pair, you'll kick yourself if you ever considered using the Apple ones - the difference in audio quality is that obvious. In fact, Apple have been very stingy with the included accessories - there's no cradle, just a lead to plug to you pc, there's no case to keep the iPod safe in, there's no AV kit to plug into your TV, you have to buy that separately too. But the one that gets me the most - if you want to charge to thing, you better have a computer nearby, because you have to charge it with the USB cable. If you want to charge it by mains, you have to buy a separate charger. I spent 250 on an mp3 player and it doesn't come with a charger? Ridiculous. Another thing that is tight is storage space. 16GB is not much these days, and the 8GB version wouldn't even hold all my music never mind photos and videos. However, there is a reason for the small capacity - the data is stored on flash memory, which is expensive to produce in high capacity, but has the advantages of being lighter, less power hungry, smaller and more shock resistant than a hard disk player (like the iPod classic). The small amount of space may be a deal-breaker for some, but personally I find 16GB is ample - just don't expect to put your entire DVD collection on it. If you only want an mp3 player for music and videos, then this one is not for you. There are many higher capacity and lower priced alternatives out there. However, if you are likely to want some internet or mail capabilities on a portable device in addition to music and video then the iPod Touch is hard to beat. It simply exudes quality, but this quality comes at a price. It's not for everyone, but it is for me!
Oh my god i'm in love April 9, 2008 Bianca Handley (England) 25 out of 28 found this review helpful
Having spent the last lord knows how many month saying that i couldn't justify buying an ipod touch ,and anyway it will probably be a pain to transfer all my stuff to it,i gave in ,,,,and i am sooooooo glad i did!!!!! It arrived just before my lunch break at work , so i just had to go home to charge it etc so i could spend the evening putting the contents of my ipod mini onto it (plus all the stuff that wouldn't fit on my ipod mini (only 4gb)),,,,,well drove home(just under 10 mins) plugged in into the laptop followed a few prompts and before i knew it i was back at work having completed a 1 hour lunch break (and no i wasn't late back) ipod touch in hand and fully loaded . The moral of this story ,,,,,i don't care what anyone says its not hard , or time consuming to switch from one ipod to another , so if thats why your not getting one ,,,,,coz of the hastle ,,,,,forget it there is none.... Also for the ladies ........It even frees up space in your handbag ,,,,,no more music player ,diary , address book, book for reading when your bored, notebook , screwed up shopping list that become illegible ,,,oh yeh and the zillion photos of you husbands/kids/grandkids/cats.....you get the picture , it does it all in a super sleek , super shiny package .....and for that added extra ,,,if your in a wi-fi hotspot you can check out your latest ebay bid or maybe just drop an email to auntie Maude in switzerland...... And the battery life is just incredible , i listen to mine all day at work and didn't have to charge it for 3 days ....what more can i say ,the only thing its missing is the phone ,,,such a shame apple chose the provider they did or i may have been reviewing the iphone not the ipod touch!!!!
You Want One....You Know You Do!! April 3, 2008 Mr. Robin Guest 23 out of 25 found this review helpful
Let's just think about this for a minute...people say the Touch doesn't have a big capacity (well, I can't fill my 16Gb), but if that's the case, buy the iPod Classic! People say it's big to carry around (it's like a PDA or smartphone)...OK, go buy a Shuffle! Oh, and it gets covered in fingerprints....yeah, it's the touch screen that does that! If you can get beyond this and you really do want the coolest iPod on the planet...something that plays your music, plays music videos, plays downloaded TV programmes or movies, plays You Tube clips, gets your emails, has a web browser, plus the latest Apple applications that are included on this version...then you really are going to enjoy this little thing!! I am extremely impressed with this - it has a lovely quality feel, a quality sound and the screen is awesome - looks great and a featherlight touch screen (just wipe the finger marks off if it bothers you). Get a decent case for it if you're worried about scratches - I did and it's now, most definitely, my new favourite toy! You will love it!!!
Hugely over-rated July 1, 2008 D. Barker (UK) 10 out of 16 found this review helpful
I was bought an iPod 16gb for christmas, my first MP3 player. It was a generous gift but my wife only bought it because she liked the gimmicky photo rotation trick. Even that does not work properly sometimes - angling the photo at right angles to how I want to see it. As a music player i don't think it is anything special - maximum volume can come across as quite quiet on some recordings. It's a pain to adjust the volume while playing music: first press the menu button, then slide finger across screen to activate controls then adjust volume setting. Not exactly as simple as rotating a wheel on an iPod classic! Video picture quality is good, but fast forwarding and rewinding is tricky to control since the scroll bar is so small you can only slide it to within an approximation of where you want to jump to. You will need extra software to get DVDs/movies onto the iPod which can be fiddly. I'm not the kind of person interested in e-mail or internet browsing on the go, so most of the apple software is redundant. And i-tunes as a controlling piece of software is not great.
I am touched that Apple cares so much... March 27, 2008 XTG (UK, England) 6 out of 9 found this review helpful
If you want your music to be shown in a cool fashion, and you also want everyone to look at you and go, "WOAH!! Where the crud did he get that, Man?" this is the iPod for for you. Apple has obviously put so much work into this little beauty, that whenever you turn it on, you and it look so proud to be with each other! I love it, love it, LOVE IT!!! Also, if you have an iTunes account, you can update your software and get new programs like e-Mail and Maps! Once again I really love this piece of kit and if you can, no even if you can't spare 250-odd pounds - GET IT. NOW: I implore you! Note: if ANYONE says that this is anything less than brilliantly fantastic and vice-versa don't give a DARN. This is way too good for any of that nonsense!!! Get it.
