Good value, good set from an excellent brand October 26, 2007 Tony Belpaeme (Plymouth, UK) 51 out of 52 found this review helpful
Just as the previous reviewer I did not buy this set from Amazon, but from a large supermarket instead. The offer was too good to refuse: a Sony Bravia 32" for 499. The TV looks fabulous, with a very impressive picture. I must say, the Freeview (digital TV) picture looked even better than what I recently saw during a demonstration in the Sony center. I was expecting some MPEG compression blurring, but this was as good as unnoticeable, especially on the high bandwidth channels such as BBC1, 2, ITV and Channel 4 (as opposed to CBeebies, which seems to use more aggresive compression). Sound is just fine. You might want to hook a amplifier and speakers if you like deep basses: the set only has 2 10W tweeters in front and thus lacks bass, but this did not disturb me. The Electronic Program Guide is a bit disappointing in that it does not show a synopsis of the program: I've owned two digital receivers before buying this television and there the user interface was (a) more intuitive and (b) much more informative. I would expect better from Sony. Only 2 HDMI inputs though, other Sony sets often have three making them slightly more future proof (although I can't imagine net being happy with 2 HDMI ports for foreseeable future).
A good buy October 21, 2007 Macca (UK) 38 out of 39 found this review helpful
I didn't buy the TV from Amazon it came from a well known Supermarket but the price was the same...The telly was really easy to set up and the colours are fabulous the sound is not bad either considering the price. The features are better than average, I don't have an X Box so lots of connections aren't a problem but there are more than enough to satisfy everyone. Looking at this model and others in the Sony range up to 1K I think it's a fantastic bargain and is every bit as good as the others in the price range. If you are on the lookout for a LCD you should take a look at this one you won't be disappointed.
Disappointing May 19, 2008 David W. Basford 27 out of 29 found this review helpful
Had this for just over a week now. Viewing angle (horizontal) is very poor - I'd say +/- 30 degrees MAX. If you are outside this angle, faces take on a distinctly over-pink hue and significant contrast is lost. After much furniture moving in the lounge, we have a just about acceptable picture, but inconvenient furniture layout! Viewing straight-on the picture is OK on some sources, but rubbish on others viz TV news and most nature progs are fine, but most soaps look terrible (unwatchable to me, just as well I don't like soaps). Severe pixellation of the image is common, and "fuzzy round the edges", which I don't get from a picture on a PC LCD monitor. I think I was happier with our ancient 21" CRT TV - much more natural pictures. Text and subtitles etc look great, as there are no convergeance errors. The same for cartoons (Simpsons). Sound is good, compared to some I have heard, with no buzzing or rattling. Remote has to be pointed directly at the TV sensor, or pointed at the ceiling for any response from the TV. This is tiresome. The EPG is nowhere near as useful or good as my 16 Freeview box, and the channel info etc takes about a third of the TOP of the screen, instead of the bottom. Lots of direct inputs but slow in selection, as you have to scroll down a menu till you get to the right one (remembering you have to be pointing the remote at the correct angle!). Also, they are labelled AV1,2,3 etc instead of Scart 1,2 and HDMI 1,2 etc which would be far more useful. It should have been easy enough to have a system which detected automatically which direct input was active when not in TV mode. Sometimes it would not detect that an HDMI input was connected (and active). Update: Contacted Amazon about the faults and to their credit they said I could return the TV for a replacement or refund. I chose refund. This was all handled very professionally by Amazon who picked up the TV and refunded within 4 days! I'm going to buy a Panasonic TX32LMD70 instead, which has MUCH better viewing angle.
A 32" Sony for 450 - Bargain November 25, 2007 Mr. P. J. Sampson (Bristol, UK) 22 out of 22 found this review helpful
For months I've been trying to decide which LCD to purchase, but having researched the area heavily I was no nearer a decision. For my budget of 450, I couldn't decide which was the best 26" TV to get. Then, wandering round a well-known supermarket, I saw this 32" Sony for under 450. The price immediately grabbed my attention, and looking at the picture, I was impressed by the way it handled Standard Definition TV. The sound was also good - admittedly, it doesn't compare to a dedicated surround sound system, but it's one of the best sounding TV's I've ever owned. To get the Sony Brand name at such a bargain price is amazing - I'm really pleased with my purchase.
Just what Ive been looking for! May 31, 2008 J. Martin (Oxon, England) 17 out of 17 found this review helpful
If, like me, you are spending time researching for the right television, you are on a budget and you pretty much want the TV now - then I would say, stop here and buy this one. Firstly, right now, its doubtful you will find this model cheaper anywhere else. Secondly, if you are looking for a 32" LCD, HD Ready with Freeview, then really, dont waste anymore timing looking about as this one will definately do. There are so many different Sony models, and then you have the other brands - you can spend so much time looking around, when really, that time could be better spent watching TV :) Whatever happens, in a weeks time, there is always something better, something cheaper ... I needed something to replace my old flat screen TV and for the price, the quality you get with this model is fantastic. It looks good, its cheap, so easy to set up, the picture and sound quality is great - overall I am completely impressed. Plus, the TV turned up exactly when Amazon said it would. If you read anywhere that City Link do not deliver on a Saturday, then thats not true. Its Saturday today and my TV arrived this morning :)
