No frills, no fuss, just gets on with the job October 15, 2007 Mrs. Gillian Griffin (Surrey) 130 out of 130 found this review helpful
Bought this sat nav as it was the cheapest TomTom there was(everyone seems to recommend TomTom),and we only wanted it for use in the UK. Very easy to use, instantly worked out a new route when we took a wrong turn. Knocked spots off the nav man we had borrowed before. Took a little bit of getting used to some of the phrases it uses, but only a minor quibble.Screen is very clear and easy to follow. Would definately recommend.
Does what it says on the box but beware no SD card slot! September 3, 2007 Mr. M. N. Walters (UK) 112 out of 113 found this review helpful
Having never had a TomTom before and been encouraged by other users, I jumped at the opportunity when the new One v3 was available - Map Share being an excellent new feature where you can make and receive map updates for free. The device is excellent but with a major niggle - no SD Card slot! I was shocked to discover this as it's not clear from the TomTom site or even the box that it arrives in! What's even more shocking is that the previous version does have an SD slot - so this v3 in some respects is a step back! The only improvement is on-board software but I bet v2 owners can upgrade to allow map share anyway. So if you want to add maps in the future - avoid this. It only has 512Mb so you can't load Western Europe. A shame as in other respects, an excellent device.
Easy to use - just stay in the UK November 7, 2007 Mr. Shumit Rehman (London) 63 out of 63 found this review helpful
I have had Tomtom on my pocket pc for a year or so and always found it easy to use. However the wife wanted an all in one unit which would be as easy to use. We tried out the cheap Garmin (Available at Halfords) and found it nowhere near as friendly as Tomtom so when the price dropped for this I decided to go for what we already know. The Tomtom people are billionaires now and you can see why. The unit is small, easy to use, easy to see, loud, sticks very easily to the windscreen, AND it takes you from a to b. The speed camera warnings are great too although I need to update it still. So why only the 4 stars. Well I think upgradeability is an important concept and by removing the sd slot I will never be able to use this abroad. However I still have my Pocket PC and we will be using that should we ever drive abroad. But for now this is the easiest and one of the cheapest units around.

First main point is don't fall into the trap of believing you can upgrade this device with new maps. It will only do Great Britain. If you need Europe you will need to buy the other TomTom Europe. TomTom have tuned into the mobile phone style of marketing which means the only print worth reading is the small print, if you can find it. TomTom also advertise a TomTom 1 with bluetooth, BUT only to connect to thier subscription services, not phone calls etc. as you would assume. Generally speaking the navigation is not bad once you realise your brain dwarfs the processor in the sat nav. Many instructions are best ignored "keep to the right" being one of them, unless you want to stick in the 2nd lane 3 miles from a roundabout with irrate drivers tailgating you and overtaking on the inside. It should stick to giving directions not telling you how to drive. The voice is loud and clear but the battery life is deliberatly only 2 hours to contrast with 5 hours on the x hundred pound models so you need to plan for for dashboard spagetti if you are going on a journey. My person view is that this a handy gadget when used sparingly, otherwise you may end up using it navigate to the body shop because it can be yet another distraction to looking where you are going. Speed camera alerts are good as is the warning that you are exceeding the speed limit. The bottom line is that this sat nav is very impressive for the price.
Excellent coverage and value for money. October 2, 2007 PHILLIP LEIGH (Wolves) 46 out of 47 found this review helpful
Total UK overage only had one blip in Wales near Abersoch, has on all military & Mod sites and roads unlike the newest software. Plus its easily updated from the net with speed camera and road restriction information which could pay for itself within 12 months. The reason for four stars instead of five is the lead from the lighter is in an awkward place on the tom tom and the charge time takes ages. Its got a belting big screen and its well loud enough to hear over the noiseiest of kids and music. All in all its superb value and @ Amazons price its a must have.
