buyer beware! October 2, 2007 Gordon Robert Stewart (Wales) 66 out of 70 found this review helpful
I bought a pair of cx300s a few weeks ago from Amazon market place for about 7, and to say that i was disapointed is an understatement - they were awful. i should of sent them back, but they did seem to improve a little, and with some cds they were almost acceptable, although the complete lack of bass could only be overcome by judicious use of the equalizer. last night, i was doing some online research, when i came across the possibility that they were counterfeit. i compared all of the criteria, and they passed every one, suggesting that they were genuine, but they still sounded awful. Today, i bit the bullet & bought a new retail set. WOW!!! these headphones are AWESOME. With the equaliser flat, there is bass by the shedfull, yet the middle & treble are bright & clear. the new ones look identical, but audio wise, they are universes apart. You may be tempted to buy cheap, and maybe there are genuine cx300s being sold cheap. Just don't say that you haven't been warned!
Brilliant! July 12, 2007 M-C (Ireland) 37 out of 38 found this review helpful
I bought a Sony Walkman a few years back and for some reason whatever earphones that came with any CD or MP3 player I have ever bought never are able to sit in my ears. I bought these headphones for myself near Christmas and for the past 7 months I haven't had a single complaint about them. They fit perfectly in my ear because of the changeable ear plugs and the sound quality is fantastic as you aren't losing any volume. They don't fall out at all unlike others even when running or cycling. Well worth the money!
Best Earphones i Ever Heard :) September 10, 2007 C. Day (England) 30 out of 31 found this review helpful
Exact same thing happened to me - placed them aside as my sonys sounded better then decided to give them another go with different buds and have recommended them to anybody who will listen :) DO NOT BUY FROM EBAY AS 99% OF THEM ARE FAKE !
Great headphones (although they're not for everone) October 11, 2007 TeeVee Stevie (Scotland) 26 out of 28 found this review helpful
These are the best headphones I have ever owned and at the current price I have no hesitation in giving them five stars. They fit right into your ear canal and are very comfortable to wear. The rubber bit that goes inside your ear is made from soft rubber and actually takes the shape of the inside of your ear so you can't really feel them whilst they are in. They are a bit strange to wear at first. You know you are wearing them properly when you get the same sensation as when your ears are all blocked up (to simulate the effect just stick your fingers in your ears). The sound is crystal clear with a thumping bass sound and everything I've heard through them so far sounds as if I'm hearing it again for the first time as I can hear things I never noticed before. Not only that but I'm now also listening to my music at a lower volume level than I was before (which can only be a good thing). I mainly use mine for the commute to work and the final plus point is that because of the way these headphones block up your ears the noises you would normally still hear whilst wearing other headphones (such as the noise of a bus engine or other passengers talking) is now barely noticable. However these headphones are not for everyone... You see, because these headphones totally block your ears it means you can hear everything that goes on inside your head that you wouldn't normally hear. So if you are wearing these headphones and decide to eat or hum along to the music then the music will suddenly be drowned out by the racket you are now making inside your own head (to simulate stick your fingers in your ear and eat or hum). As I said above I use mine for the commute to work so I'm sitting down or standing still for most of the time. I've noticed though that whilst walking (or running for the bus) you can hear the dull thumping noise of your feet hitting the pavement passing up through your body up to your head. As I don't exercise I can't say for sure but I can only imagine that the constant "thump, thump, thump" sound as you went for a jog would really distract you from enjoying your music (if you want to simulate what I am talking about then again stick your fingers in your ears and jog on the spot). So it's still five stars from me as I do none of the above and they sound amazing but if you like to eat, hum along to the music or go for a jog whilst listening to your headphones I would probably avoid them.
Mixed results... ignore the 5 star reviews. November 5, 2007 i wrote this (Bucks) 14 out of 18 found this review helpful
When you first open the packaging you can't help but be disappointed by these head phones: the wires feel cheap & nasty and they're not even symmetrical for goodness sake! It's not until you walk down a busy street listening to music at a reasonably low volume with cars rushing past that you start to see the value in the Sennheiser CX300s. The noise reduction works a treat. Of course if you want absolute silence you're not going to get in at this price. But I did notice significant improvements over ipod and sony head phones and it means that I am able to look after my hearing better by listening to music at much lower levels. But there is a downside: You hear every little noise coming through the wires. Even on a still day you can hear the effect of wind on the cables coming through the headphones. Also there are clear audible noises every time the wires knock against your clothes. On a windy day noises like this could cancel out the benefit of reduced environmental sounds. The sound quality is good but not that incredible compared with most bundled headphones. If you are expecting a vast improvement over ipod headphones you will be disappointed. Also, the Sennheiser CX300 is no good for Sony Ericsson users as for some reason they amplify background hiss from the phone's music player. I've tried this with 2 different models of SE Walkman phones and found that the bundled headphones gave quieter sounds but eliminated most of the hiss. Finally a couple of words on price: On Sunday I saw these head phones retail at 30 from the Sennheizer stand at the Stuff & What Hi Fi show. There is no way that the CX300's are good enough to warrant that kind of price tag. Even at 18 (current amazon uk price) they feel over priced because of the nasty wire. They are marginally better then standard ipod or Walkman head phones but not worth a lot of extra cash. I paid 14 and I think that price is a good reflection of the performance value of these headphones. In conclusion: the CX300 are good sounding headphones with noise reduction that works. But the overall value is let down by the nasty feel of the wires and excessive interference noises. They make a good replacement for broken or warn out ipod headphones but aren't worth buying as an `upgrade'. Sony Ericsson users should avoid them altogether.
