Wait for the bug fix! December 16, 2006 silkstone (Yorkshire, UK) 63 out of 64 found this review helpful
The main differences between PSP X and PSP XI are a few extra 'makeover' tools, and the transformation of the Browser into the Organiser. Herein lies the problem. Firstly the Organiser will try to create a database of all files within a chosen folder (or My Pictures), including any subfolders. More critically, it may run your processor at about 50% even when the program is not doing anything. There have been reports of computers - especially laptops - overheating because of this. Corel acknowledges the problem and has posted a temporary fix which involves deleting several database files, moving everything out of the My Pictures folder and not using the Organiser. That's not very satisfactory, and I'm sure they will fix the problem in a future maintenance release. So my advice is to wait until then, and meanwhile use PSP X which is very good and does not hog the CPU.
Great results with little effort at a reasonable price November 10, 2006 Glen Allan (Renfrewshire, Scotland) 51 out of 53 found this review helpful
I have used both Paintshop Pro XI and Adobe Photoshop Pro. Yet I always come back to using Paintshop Pro. WHY? I don't have to be a graphic designer to get the best pictures out of the application. Right from starting up the software you can get stuck into using it rather than wading through a hefty manual, unlike photoshop. The secret of this applications success, is that on the front end it looks relatively simple with plenty of wizards to walk you through what you are doing, yet a few clicks behind these menus and you can be achieving anything as technical as you can in Photoshop. This version XI seems to have been optimized to use system resources more efficiently as the image effects are rendered on screen a lot quicker than in previous versions. I have stuck with my P4 2.8Ghz 1GbDDR ram PC I have had for the last 3 years and it runs well on this. Conclusion - If you want to edit images with all the flair of Photoshop but without the steep learning curve, you should buy this application. At only 69 on Amazon you would be daft to spend your hard earned cash on Photoshop that costs about 5 times as much!!! P.S. I don't want to be seen to be knocking Photoshop, but in comparison to this application it is expensive and over-complicated, but can deliver stunning results. Only buy Photoshop if you have the patience to stick with it and have a high end PC.
Must Have Software October 7, 2006 Mrs. Vanessa Shaw (Telford, England) 34 out of 37 found this review helpful
If you own a digital camera (and even if you don't)you should have this software. It installs well and runs well. The learning centre is very easy to use and the tutorials easy to follow. The results that can be achieved are quite amazing. The process can be as simple or sophisticated as you like and even my 8 year old grandson can produce great graphics using the picture tubes and other painting tools. Considering the power of this software it represents excellent value for money. If you have a previous version (before version 9)You should consider an upgrade now. If you have never owned this product you should buy it now.
Photo editor good, organizer bad August 22, 2007 Mr. J. Ward (Leeds, UK) 28 out of 30 found this review helpful
This product is not the best organizer, but the photo editor is brilliant and much better than Photoshop elements 5. If you are looking for a photo organizer I recommend Google Picasa (www.google.co.uk/picasa). Overall I find that Paint shop pro is the best picture editing software available and outshines Adobe Photoshop Elements. Before you buy remember to go to the Corel website (www.corel.co.uk) and try the free 30 day trial.
Excellent software December 5, 2006 S Sparrow (Ye Olde Londinium) 26 out of 32 found this review helpful
PSP XI is great. Having been a faithful user of version 7 for some years, I thought it was about time to consider an upgrade so I tried the free trial of XI - and the fact that I bought the full program only a few days later should tell you how useful I find it! There are a few major changes since version 7: * Animation shop is gone - why?! * The vector select and deformation tool have been merged to a picker tool - not a good idea: selecting small vector objects is a lot tricker because it always ends up picking the raster layers below * Vector editing is also harder (I still do all my complex vectors on PSP7 for this reason) * The tool options palette has changed, but text editing is slightly easier once you get used to the changes * Where are all the presets?! PSP7 had loads of presets for all the different effects and filters but PSP XI has very few and the ones it does have are mostly rubbish * Masking is a lot more effective and user-friendly but the Mask overlay function takes an AGE!!!!! * It's also incredibly slow loading and carrying out effects Overall though it's a neat piece of kit. The in-program help files are excellent and there are also some useful tutorials on the corel website. At this price, its a very affordable app and makes me wonder why non-pros want to spend half a grand extra on photoshop! If you've never tried PSP before and need convincing I would definitely recommend giving the trial version a shot.
