The roberts rd50 is a clasicly styled radio that greatly impresses. The radio is both mains and battery powered (4 d size batteries). The rd50 has both the dab and fm wavebands. The radio has autotune. The radio has a clear easy to read amber backlight display combined with an easy to use rotary volume and tuning buttons. The rd50 has pause plus capabilites allowing you with the touch of a button to pause yur favourite station and return to it a few minutes later. The unit weighs in at 1.5kg and measures in at 15.5cm high, 25cm wide and 10cm deep. Roberts have created a radio that they can be proud of it is easy to use, is packed full of modern technology and at only £149 pounds is a bargain. This is an impressive radio from roberts a company that has been around since 1932 but if the styling puts you off take a look at the pure evoke 2xt a similary classed radio.

I have an analogue Roberts in the bathroom, a DAB Evoke Pure1 in my kitchen and have been after an RD50 for the bedroom for sometime. Despite being expensive I have not been disappointed with this radio.
It is so easy to use. Skim through the well laid out manual once and you will be able to operate all its features including PausePlus which lets you record 15 minutes of sound, if you have to attend to something else.
The DAB auto tune takes less than 10 seconds to find and store all of your available digital stations. The 6 part telescopic antenna which is about 20 inches long fully extended, gave me great reception. The LCD provides six different types of information including signal strength. There is also a useful button providing quick access to your favourite station.
I found the sound quality and volume to be better than the Evoke. I'd say it's tone was rich, deep but clear, perfect for speech on Radio 4 and classical music on Radio 3 or Classic FM. Inside there is one good quality 3 watt speaker and a cone arrangement which provides more bass resonance from the solid construction of the cabinet.
It is expensive compared to other radios but in the end I'm happy to have paid extra for great sound, the convenience and range of digital and the ease of use of a quality product which should last years.

Do not buy this product. Remembering the quality of Roberts radios from the 1960s and 70s I had expected robust build quality, ease of use, good reception and good quality sound output. I was severely disappointed: One doesn't even get a socket for an RF aerial, which for the price is laughable. This product is a triumph for appearance over function. Definitely one to avoid.

I bought this for my mum for Christmas (although I got the red one!) - she thinks it's absolutely fantastic! Particularly the pause button so she can phone up Radio 5 Live say her piece & then listen back to herself - bless!!
The sound quality is superb even in an area with fairly weak DAB coverage. She's going to buy herself another one for upstairs!!
