Great gadget and well worth the traffic option. September 1, 2008 E. Pope 37 out of 38 found this review helpful
The Tomtom One traffic did exactly as it promised and worked sraight from the box, was very easy to use and provided accurate and easy to follow directions. The first journey I tested it on was 200 miles long and it didn't let me down once. The traffic function was invaluable and worked smartly and efficiently, saving me time and sanity. I think some users expect the impossible from a gadget, and of course the traffic facility will have its limitations. If there is no faster route around the traffic the tomtom will tell you this and you will have to sit in the queue. There is no magic button to make traffic evaporate! Also, if an accident has only just happened the Tomtom will not know before the radio stations do. In addition, sometimes there is just nowhere to divert to. These are not failings on behalf of the device though, and mine has already made sensible detours around traffic for me that I would otherwise have just sat in and therefore saved me plenty of time. Highly recommended.
Great device, but forget the "Traffic" option August 22, 2008 LambrettaBill (London) 22 out of 23 found this review helpful
As other Tom Tom reviews state, this is a genuine ready-to-go from the box gadget. Really easy to master and adapt to your own preferences. The new mount system is also bafflingly secure and neat. However, I paid an extra thirty-odd pounds for the "traffic" edition. Don't make the same mistake - it is useless. After sitting stationary in a jam for approx 30 minutes (on major roads) a symbol appears indicating "traffic ahead" or something equally unhelpful. This is more than a little annoying, and can make traffic delays seem even more of an irritant! In my opinion, get the basic model, and use the traffic anouncement function on your stereo for more accurate traffic info than on this - not fit for purpose - add on.
Good sat nav but forget the traffic function and dont connect to a mac! December 9, 2008 Dr. T. Hurst (Manchester) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Having had a tomtom before I was pleased the find that this one worked in a very similar way and on a quick test run seemed good. The traffic aerial is a total pain though. Its very long, and needs power from the car to make it work ie you cant have traffic info without having the whole unit on charge. It would only be worth plugging in, and arranging on the window etc for longer journey. My real trouble came when I connected it to my mac. I downloaded the HOME software and was advised that I should update the operating system on the unit its self. It has not worked since, despite a hard reset (always worrying when the end user can break something that badly..) and went back to amazon within hours of being opened.
