Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
TomTom presents a new powerhouse of technology: the TomTom One V3! This GPS has a host of detailed road maps stored in its internal memory to make your journey as pleasant as possible. It?s also equipped with a 3.5" anti-glare touch screen that will guide you along the roads of Europe. It even has an RDS-RMC input so you can hook up an optional TMC antenna and avoid traffic jams and road works. Meanwhile, its MAPSHARE feature lets you modify road maps, road names, the direction of traffic and other elements, and then send the changes to other TomTom GPS owners from your computer (TomTom users can decide whether to receive these updates or not.). The One V3 has an easy-to-use, 2-page navigation interface with improved graphics, which lets you choose to display the most common functions only, and also features a QuickGPSFIX programme that enables you to quickly pinpoint your exact location. And when you get into a spot of bother, you can always call for help with the ?Help Me? function! You can count on the One V3 to get you to your destination on time!

5 out of 5 stars Superb Gadget   November 20, 2007

I bought the TomTom One v3 three weeks ago. I was going to be doing a lot of driving in unfamiliar territory around Glasgow and district. (I also intend using the European mapping when on holiday in hire cars). Verdict - brilliant. Very intuitive and easy to use. I bought the TomTom One as it appeared to be the most basic on offer. I didn't want bluetooth hands free phone compatibilty, mp3 player, radio volume muting etc. etc. Just a device that tells you how to get from A to B. It does just that. It makes the odd mistake at roundabouts but quickly recalculates and sorts it out. Definitely recommended.
I don't like it stuck to the windscreen. It falls off and would be a target for theft if not removed every time you leave the car. Mine works perfectly stuck in a storage space in the dashboard beside the gear lever. The maps are not as visible as they would be when stuck to the windscreen but the voice commands are excellent and all you really need anyway.
Security advice - I was given this advice by a friend. Don't put your complete home address into a sat nav. Why? Well if your car is stolen and the sat nav is inside it, the thief can key in 'navigate home' and is directed to your house. He knows the house is probably unoccupied as you are busy at the police station reporting your stolen car!!

4 out of 5 stars Impressed so far   October 26, 2007

I got my new TomTom yesterday (1 day late due to postal back log) and so far have been extremely impressed with it. It is compact and yet clear to view. The verbal instructions give lots of warning of turns but with roads having a hairpin bend it has given the command "turn left/right" rather than "Bear left/right". What is uncanny is the way it can recalculate your route if you decide to go a different way. It even amazed my cynical wife! Another problem with the TomTom occurred quite near to my house. It tried to send me down a street that was blocked off a few years ago. I simply told the sat nav that the road was blocked in both directions. Problem solved! It now sends me the correct way out of my estate.

All in all, so far I would have given 5 stars if not for two things. One, there is a lack of carrying case; something you have to buy extra, and secondly there is no mains charger. The TomTom is charged in the car and you have to buy a mains charger if you want to recharge in the home. Rumour has it that the TomTom can be charged very slowly (4 hours) via the USB port on the computer. Certainly the charge light goes on when it is plugged in. However, fortunately for me I have a Motorola mobile phone, and the mains adapter for the phone fits the TomTom. It recharges in no time at all.

5 out of 5 stars The Best By Far   November 24, 2007

I have owned three previous sat nav units, two Gamins and a Navman. Compared the the others the Tomtom is far superior. Better screen, superb audio and high build quality.
Do not look at any others. If you want an entry level unit that works out of the box and works well purchase one of these.

5 out of 5 stars Simple Application - Positive Experience   November 30, 2007

Believe it or not it has taken me over a year to buy a Sat Nav. Amongest many others, the main reason being all the negative reviews on the product. Nevertheless, I hung in there and sort the opinions of my mates and saw first hand the workings of a number of different makes and models.
Three weeks ago I purchased the Tom Tom 1 UK - (v3) and couldn't be happier with my early christmas present. It is stylish, bright and breezy and very very user friendly. The various menu options are most impressive and the highlighted safety camera's is an added and welcome bonus. All I can say / ask the users who have been directed down a 'wrong/long' route, is "Have you programmed your route correctly - i.e. shortest, fastest etc remembering the shortest is not always the fastest?"
Simple advice - Trust your Tom Tom. Absolutely Brilliant!!!!!.

3 out of 5 stars It works with reservations   September 20, 2007

Ok it works, but the supplied windscreen mount is useless, trust me on this... budget for an improved mount...
I am still learning how to use this gadget.. I still cannot take to being given directions so a steep learning curve here..
It does not overdo instructions thankfully however at a couple of traffic light junctions involving turns it said exactly... nothing! Particularly on motorways it tends to tell you to bear right when all you really need to do is stay on the present road, confusing...
It arrived equipted with the latest maps, which is excellent however it still managed to fall into the trap of trying to take me down a dirt road in a local town, and literally 100m away in my village it thinks an old track is a road... wonderful.. not!...
The interface to TomTom Home worked fine although it was slow to do a map backup... hopefully not a comment task... and via the internet you may download updates and mapshare ...
It has also managed to lock up on a couple of occassions... fortunately a switch off, and after a pause switch on has achieved a recovery..
The speed limit feature would be more useful if the unit had more accurate information.. it seems not to know some limits or has the wrong start and finish which leads to false alarms... however in my limited experience to date the speed camera feature did work well....
In summary it is a good unit however some effort will be required to learn how to use it. It will assist navigation however it will not replace good route planning and knowing where you are going.
