5 out of 5 stars Adios TomTom   August 1, 2007

TomTom, I loved you until some scallys decided to steal you from me!

So, decision, cheap SatNav or another Tom? I compared them all in the local Halfords store, determined that Tom was the only SatNav for me but I love this little unit!

Very fast compared to my old Tom (700), 15 satellites to connect to instead of the few I got with Tom, works with the glare-filter windscreen on the Renault which Tom hated and is just plain simple.

Ok, no remote or bluetooth or handsfree etc, but then I recently gave up on SmartPhones for a simple Nokia 6300; I never needed all the gadgets that just ate the battery - much like the TomTom, battery, flat...

So this little bute, same size as an iPod (Not Nano!), fits in the pocket, comes out of the box with just an incar charger and a dock and I love it.

Superb touch screen, simple no nonsense navigation, bit wary at first but then got used to the fact that Tom was just to clever, the Garmin manual is about 4 pages compared to the Phone Book with Tom.

TomTom vs Garmin? I loved TomTom, made life easier but apart from the smashed window on the car I'm glad I've got a nice easy touch screen wide screen fits in yer pocket Garmin Nuvi 200!

Just bought the garmin 200w and now wouldn't be without it. First time for me to have one but its so simple and easy to use.We loved the product so much we've bought another one the same for some friends. Thoroughly recommend this purchase. Great extra features like, nearest shops, petrol stations, hotels, banks and atm's parking etc. Fab little gaget!!! One other reviewer mentioned about not having a home charger included, but to be honest all you need to do is plug the sat nav into your cigarette lighter socket and away you go,

4 out of 5 stars great gadget, poor extras   November 5, 2007

I have the smaller version of this unit the 200. It is exactly the same as 200w except it is not widescreen. Tried it for the first time today on a trip to Liverpool and it worked like a dream. I set off from a hospital and it even gave the names of small roads on the hospital site. verbal directions are clear and the visual display is straightforward and obvious. The unit was quick and I didn't notice any delays. I took a different turn early on in the journey because I knew my way and the unit quickly recalculated another route. Well worth the money but a bit dissapointed that it doesn't come with a USB lead to connect to PC to download updates and any new software (at least it doesn't when bought from Halfords). This costs 10.00 to buy separately. I would have given 5 stars otherwise.

4 out of 5 stars Technophobe friendly!   September 17, 2007

I recently bought one of these for our company van and was so impressed with it, that I decided to buy one for myself. Though I love and own many kinds of gadgets, this was my first sat nav and so far, I'm very impressed. Thankfully, after the nightmare I had setting up a Sony NU51 for my boss (see my other reviews) this was so extremely simple that I never had to look at the instructions. Even my technophobe girlfriend, who took it out of the box and switched it on before I could even stop her, had already sussed it, it really is that easy to use!

It did get lost on the way to Ikea in Croydon yesterday, presumably due to some quite new roads, but I guess that's because I haven't yet had time to register it and receive the latest updates. Admittedly, it's very frill free compared to other sat navs on the market, but it's also much cheaper and since I already have a separate bluetooth earpiece and MP3 player in my car anyway, it's all I need for now.

Only 4 stars though in my opinion, since a product has to not only meet my expectations but far exceed them for me to give it 5 stars, but this is still a very good, uncluttered and highly intuitive purchase!
