| Customer Reviews:
Not Impressed!! May 22, 2008 Mr. P. J. Harris My Garmin 650 GPS (not from Amazon)lasted 6 months before catastrophic failure. It would no longer track satellites. It has now been away for over 3 months for repair with no sign of its return. When it did work its performance in my part of the country (Devon/Cornwall) was average at best. Many times it sent me down tracks that were only just wide enough for a bike let alone a Land Rover. The other downer is that map updates are few and far between and are fairly expensive when they are available. Speed camera updates are 30 a year also. I'm sure there are better Sat Navs out there.
Streets ahead of the cheaper sat navs September 1, 2008 Hairpin Hiker (Italy) Unlike the other reviewer, I have had absolutely no problem with my Nuvi 650. It does sometimes take you down lanes that require the wing mirrors to be folded in - amazing short cuts! - but if you know how to use, it you can decide what size and type of road you are confident driving down. There is far more detail with Garmin maps and the processor will calculate a great route. It seems to prefer scenic routes when you tell it to avoid main roads, which pleases me no end - I have seen so much more of countries since I got it - and when you select to avoid traffic, it almost avoids every other car on the road! I have arrived home in Rome on a Sunday night of a holiday weekend and got straight to my door without a single delay. Garmin aren't just another consumer product company: they provide sat navs for ships and aircraft. If you are up to the challenge of using the real thing, pay the extra and be well rewarded.
