Product Description
New from Mitac, the worlds first Pocket PC based PDA with integrated GPS receiver, giving you complete freedom to navigate. Whether it be in the car or on foot the Mio 168 is an excellent all-in-one companion. The Mio 168 uses Microsofts Pocket PC 2003 operating system, and with its sleek, ultra-light form factor, is the ideal PDA, in addition to being the perfect GPS navigation system when youre behind the wheel. The Mio 168s amazing GPS capabilities gets a fix on your position within few seconds, even if youve just come out of a tunnel or parking garage, to keep you on track toward you destination. Even when youre not driving, the portable Mio 168 can present you with street directions as soon as you come out of a subway, so you never need worry about losing your way. The thoroughly integrated design of the Mio 168 spares you the need to buy multiple devices. It is simple to install and keeps the inside of your car tidy. Used with appropriate navigation software, the Mio 168 lets you know immediately where you are. The Mio 168 uses a TFT LCD screen, providing benefits-such as clear visibility in strong light, high brightness and contrast, superior clarity, and exceptionally crisp image quality-that traditional STN or other 4096-color low-end color displays cannot hope to match. The Mio 168 also integrates LED backlighting technology that protects your eyes through brighter, more uniformly illuminated screen images, while conserving power to extend battery life. The Mio 168s affordable price even includes a comprehensive set of accessories for using it in your car. This includes: PDA car holder; suction mount; and car cigarette charger. Its the smart choice for ready-to-go, easy-to-use GPS car navigation. [box]Download Microsoft ActiveSync to synchronize your PDA with your desktop computer here. By doing this it will not be necessary for you to open and break the seal on the software.[/box]

2 out of 5 stars The x-950 Via Michelin is pretty poor   November 21, 2007
Stephen Arthur
GPS is magic (all those satellites), but actually getting it to do something useful means:

1. Full postcode search
2. A menu system that you can understand; or even better, that your former map reader can understand, and use reliably.

The Via Michelin x950 fails miserably on both counts.
Many major locations (my examples - a large Heathrow hotel; St Albans Cathedral) only provide postcodes. You can't find these with the ViaMichelin unless you use an alternative source to determine which street they're on or near.
And the menu system is dire. If you're not careful, having spent time calculating a route, you select 'Main Menu' and get spat out to the start screen. I'm rarely able to follow the same (tortuous) route through the menu system twice in a row. I bought this device for the Michelin information, but it's pretty much unusable.
