5 out of 5 stars Awesome at the price   June 13, 2005

Watched the Canadian Grand Prix 1st off, you really notice more detail on a larger screen. DVD quality is also great, much better than other non DLP Projectors that I have looked at at the price, also looks great with my PS2. Revenge of the sith was fantastic. All round much better than I expected. Obviously a little more time was taken in setting up, however the manuual got me going 1st time. In summary, very pleased I made this purchase.

5 out of 5 stars Best Budget Projector - easily   January 28, 2006

I actually did a lot of homework on budget projectors before I considered this one, and found several reviews that didn't rate it that highly because of either the 'rainbow' effect or because it's noisy, or because they've heard of some cases where dust has collected inside the lens barrel - I can tell you now that these are all rubbish.
I'm not saying that faults won't happen, but these can be fixed well within the generous warranty period. And all I can say is that the first time you watch a movie on this, particularly if you buy a half-decent dvd cinema system, it will blow you away. I have a room about 4 and a half metres wide, and just this distance allows me to project an image about 9 feet wide! And when linking up with my xbox, it's just fantastic.
There is a touch of rainbow-ing when you move your head, but it's nothing really nopticeable or distracting, the noise level is fine, and really unnoticeable when you're watching something, and I've yet to find anything else that makes me feel anything other than amazingly happy with my purchase.

5 out of 5 stars BenQ PE 5120   December 26, 2005

This is my first projector, it is so easy to set up. Just connect to your DVD player (I use a S-Video connection) which is the second best quality connection for this device. The best is Component (Red Green Blue RCA) and the least composite (the yellow single RCA), and the picture is brilliant. The colours are perfect, it really is as good if not better than the cinema in my view. I am very pleased with the BenQ PE 5120 and would recommend it, and give 5+ stars if I could. Oh, as for the rainbow affect I have heard of in some reviews, I can't see it myself but my son has noticed it, but only very slightly on ocassion but he says it is not at all distracting. You won't be disappointed with this product. Well done BenQ.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent budget performer   April 26, 2006

This is my first projector.

I have owned it for several months and continue to be mightily impressed by it's performance, particularly when using the DVI-I input (fed by the HDMI output of my DVD player).
Via DVI-D the picture quality is sharp, movement is smooth and colours (especially flesh tones) are generally spot on.
The projector is easy to use, with meaningful and adequate controls. Also it throws a huge native 16:9 image (I got up to 4m in a friend's very large living room) without any subjective deterioration in picture quality or brightness.

The only downsides are:
1. The usual slight rainbow effect of DLP (although this is rare and bothers me nor anyone who has watched this projector).
2. Some 'halo' effect. Although once I had CAREFULLY cleaned the internal lense and mirrors, this does not effect the immediate area around the projected screen, and so is not a distraction.
3. There is some apparent lack of colours in the white range. This is evident only when contrast is turned up and shots of the sky are on screen, the effect being a certain fuzzing as pixels find it difficult to choose which of the few white colours available to go for.

I can honestly recommend this product, especially when the price is considered.
