Amazon.co.uk Review Jennifer Lopez and Aussie heartthrob Alex O'Loughlin are pitch-perfect foils in the romantic comedy The Back-up Plan--a film that's as light as the foam on a root-beer float, but which manages to be both romantic and very funny. Lopez, after a long absence from the big screen, is a pleasure to watch--an accomplished (and underrated) comedian who can spar and spark with the best of her peers, and better than most. Lopez's chemistry with the dreamy O'Loughlin will engage viewers completely. Lopez plays Zoe, a smart woman whose dating life has been dismal--and who finally decides to become a single mum so she can achieve at least the motherhood she's always desired. As fate would have it, she meets Mr. Perfect (or Mr. Close To It), O'Loughlin's Stan, on the very day she visits the fertility clinic and becomes pregnant with twins. The early stages of their courtship involve Zoe's increasingly desperate measures to conceal her growing belly. By the time she confesses her condition, Stan is smitten--but with hormones on both sides roiling, and reality about to set in as the birth approaches, both Zoe and Stan get cold feet. If the plot of The Back-up Plan is a bit predictable, the flinty performances of both Lopez and O'Loughlin keep the viewer utterly engaged. Supporting actors Eric Christian Olsen, as Zoe's best guy pal, and the lovely and hilarious Michaela Watkins (The New Adventures of Old Christine) turn in terrific performances, too, and cameos by veterans including Albert Klein (as Zoe's hyperenthusiastic doctor), Tom Bosley, and Linda Lavin round out the excellent acting ensemble. The Back-up Plan also features an engaging soundtrack with a danceable tune by Lopez, "What Is Love?" and memorable songs by Colbie Caillat, India Arie, and more. The Back-up Plan shows that love may not always go according to plan--OK, it never does--but it's worth the ride, however the heart ultimately gets there. --A.T. I took my mum to see this movie and to be honest i wasnt expecting great things as i usually find JLO's films abit naff. However i have seen Alex Oloughlin in Moonlight and we think he's cute so we gave it a go. Call us shallow if you like..
We thought it was very funny in parts and we enjoyed it alot. There were outtakes at the end too which is always good for a giggle.
Having children myself i could relate to many parts of the film. Couples or girls night out, go for it!!
Well worth a watch as its rare to find anything funny or light hearted these days.

The best film i have ever seen!
makes you cry from laughter, i completely advise you to go watch this film.
Run of the mill boy-girl situation comedy September 5, 2010 bernie (Arlington, Texas) Very contemporary actor has to do at least one of these formula predictable comedies. These movies are Hollywood machine cranked out of the factory to placate the proletariat. Keep people happy, keep the economy going, and distract us with the same formulas. I am one of those people that do not mind watching these movies yet I think of how many hours were wasted saying "stay in the car" or "don't do that". It is possible that, some one familiar with that sort of the genre may be able to discern between a three-star in a five-star version depending on the type of acting in the subtleness of the story. However, for me this just looks like another of a long chain the situation comedies with boy and girl misunderstanding each other until they understand each other and would have been better off misunderstanding each other.
However, sit back and enjoy the twists and turns as Stan and Zoe (Alex O'Loughlin and Jennifer Lopez) anticipate and observe parenthood.

I have only seen the Blu-ray version of this presentation so I cannot comment o others. However, some of the scenes would have been better in a much, much lower resolution. There are the standard extras that we just take for garnet are on DVD's as Deleted scenes and the making of. For the socially orientated -Live.
Not Even as a Back-up Plan ! August 24, 2010 Ms. A. L. Buxton (Ipswich, suffolk, England) Don't waste your money on this film. It is Not funny or believable. I would not want to watch it again. I found this film annoying and very cheesy. I'm 21 and normally love rom-coms but this was a let down. The only thing I liked was her little dog, bless him, he is so cute. He is the only thing that made it worth watching. The two stars are for him**

This is one of the worst Rom-Coms i have ever seen. I quite like Rom-Coms but i didn't like this at all. Everything about it was really bad, the script, the acting, the storyline everything. It was the most cheesey and naff movie ever. If you like Rom-Coms i recommend not wasteing your money or time watching this. Watch Date Night, Leap Year or Letters To Juliet because they are far better. I find it hard to understand why Jennifer Lopez decided to do this, i know her films are'nt especially fantastic but this is terrible. Her character in this is just anoying and so is every other person in it. Was not expecting this to be so bad. Absolutley awful.
