Amazon.co.uk Review
Pure. Popcorn. Entertainment. That's an exact classification of director Michael Bay's Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. The action is nonstop, with battles and explosions from start to finish. The camera (without any subtlety) exploits Megan Fox's hotness to the max. As if she weren't enough, a new sex kitten (Isabel Lucas) is thrown into the equation. Shia LaBeouf is as charismatic as ever, and fills the starring role with ease. And then there's the humour. Sam's parents (Kevin Dunn and Julie White) provided some semi-raunchy laugh-out-loud moments in the first movie, but now they take it to the next level. Sometimes it seems like they are trying a little too hard, but it is still hilarious.

As far as the “plot” goes, the writers didn't waste much time--it's really just a context for the giant-robot death matches and dramatic slow-mo sequences. The movie kicks off two years later where the Autobots have formed an alliance with the U.S. government, creating an elite team led by Major Lennox (Josh Duhamel), in an effort to snuff out any remaining Decepticons that show up. The bad guys keep coming, and it turns out that a much more menacing force than Megatron is out there--and it is looking for something on Earth that is tied to the very origin of the Transformers race. Fans of the franchise will be delighted by the addition of many new robot characters (there are well over 40 in the sequel, versus only 13 in the first). The second Transformers has shaped up to be one of the worst reviewed and most successful movies of all time. This strange pairing is really just an indication that this movie has one purpose: to entertain. The creators didn't want to waste time bogging down the action and drama with substance--which was arguably a good decision. --Jordan Thompson

Just sat for 2 plus hours through this movie. Still not too sure of the plot!!!
Nice effects, plenty of things being blown up but thats about it.
All in all I did not enjoy the movie. My advice is wait til you can buy it of amazon for a few quid, it could kill 2.5hrs of your life when you are really bored.

1 out of 5 stars There are no words to describe how bad this film is   January 9, 2010

I am a Transformer's fan. I loved the original animated film (1986) and really enjoyed Michael Bay's first Transformer outing (2007): sure it was not high art, but with a straight forward plot, fantastic battle scenes and a great score from Steve Jabolosky, it ticked all the right blockbuster boxes. So I was excited about Revenge of the Fallen (2009).

There are not words enough to describe the cinematic train wreck that is this movie. With an incoherent plot, complete lack of meaningful characterisation, and not even a decent action sequence the film lumbers on and on for a seemingly endless 2.5 hours. I completely agree with a previous reviewer who commented on the silly humour which fills the film, with a plethora of fart, sex and drug jokes; plus stir in some gratuitous up-skirt shots of some hottie trying to mount Shia Le Beouf, and it's clear this film is aimed squarely at frat boys and and an all male adolescent demographic. As such it feels like a marketing machine has identified this target audience, spewed out a bunch of things to appeal to this audience (big robots? check. hot babes? check. low brow comedy ad nauseum? check) and just jumbled out those ingredients with no particular order or semblance of cohesion. The result is awful; relentlessly, unremittingly, irredeemably, awful.

The ideas in this film for the introduction and use of new characters are fantastic! Soundwave, Ravage, Constructicons, Devastator - wonderful additions and the shape and form of these are superb.

The twins on the Auto-bot side are good comedy characters also and along with Sideswipe, and the characters we got to know 1st time round, work brilliantly.

The problem with this movie is that the human characters are totally wasted in the script - both the military group N.E.S.T and Sam etc. The reason for this is that this film does too much - the material here could round out the trilogy! This film should have been about recovering Megatron from the depths of the ocean along with the other casualties from the first film. The Decepticons regrouping under Starscream off-world, Introducing the FALLEN as the supreme being on the Decepticon side and the Decepticons undermining the Auto-bots and manoeuvrings to subvert the humans through the guidance of Soundwave in his inspired new form as a Satellite, was so pleased with this. The assault on the human base by Ravage co-ordinated by Soundwave should have been the set piece of the movie - all the espionage agents from Soundwave's arsenal should have been involved i.e. Frenzy, Rampage, Ravage, Nightstalker, Laserbeak, Buzzsaw and Ratbat. When Ravage opened up with his mini-guns and missiles I thought it was smart - imagine that x2 with air support and Fenzy/Rampage doing a fighting retreat with the item recovered - epic!

I always liked Jetfire as a character - Decepticon turned Autobot - a formidable fighter and at some points a little ambiguous. In this film it was good up until he transformed and acted like an old man - rubbish.

This movie should have been literally 'revenge of the fallen' and ended with the Decpticons winning the Fallen returned, Megatron reanimated and Optimus Prime slain in an epic battle with Starscream, Megatron AND the Fallen. The 3rd movie in the series should have been the battle in the Egyptian/Jordanian desert with devastator coming to the fore, the matrix, the return of Optimus Prime and the plot of the fallen coming out and then being defeated. Now these movies would have smashed the box office for all time! The Fallen in ancient times should have originally been defeated by the Dinobots - now that would have been epic and a proper use of such great characters - the SAS of the auto-bots - it would have fit the time-line and worked awesome.

Just my ideas, movie is 6 out of 10, I rate the first movie an 8 because I thought it was just brilliant and kept it simple and introduced us to fantastic characters. This one loses marks by ruining plot ideas and characters but still looks brilliant and definitely entertains.

Small point how can the Constructicons be involved in the assault on the humans when theoretically they are all formed up as devastator at the time? Motormaster, Mixmaster and at least 2 others are seen whilst devastator is doing his thing!?

Mr Bay you make great looking films and you get the look right every time but in terms of telling a story and using characters and developing plot - you still suck!

If Orci and Kurtzman had not been out of action with the writers strike this film would have been way better put together. How did the 'Comedy' transformers get past the hardcore at hasbro - were they drugged and tied up that day?

1 out of 5 stars Thoroughly Disappointed!!   December 13, 2009

I was really excited at the release of a second Transformers film, but on watching it at the cinema, I thought the film was ruined by silly humor! There was some 'silly humor' in the first Transformers film but not enough for me to dislike the film. I went to see the film a second time to try and convince myself to like the film more, but it just annoyed me even more! Throughout the film there was too much of this 'silly humor' whether it came from the transformer twins, little transformer humping Megan Fox, 'grandad' transformer, Sams room mate, or especially Sams mom! The storyline wasnt that brilliant either, and half the time I was wondering what was going on! Also, none of the acting stood out as good from any of the cast! Only part I did like was Optimus Prime battling against the Decepticoms. I have never slated a film this badly before, thus showing my complete disappointment in what could of been one of the best films of the year, lets hope Spielberg directs any possible sequel rather than just being a producer.

1 out of 5 stars Does not even deserve one star!   February 6, 2010

I was a Transformers fan since my early teens and there were certain things that made the stories compelling. Examples of this were Optimus Prime with his sense of humanity and self sacrificing nature, Megatron's mercilessness and obsession with power, the moral self questioning by various characters about whether their actions were right and explorations into madness.

This film however goes no where near any of this and even more criminally actually turns Optimus into a heartless killer of defeated foes, Megatron into servile idiot, the Autobots into foul mouthed thugs who kill Deceptions in torturously vicious ways and Deceptions that wouldn't terrify Little Bow Peep. On top of all this the humans seem to just hang around ineffectively firing small arms to get butchered for no useful purpose.

What amazes me is that with all the material available to the film makers from the comics they ended up with a feeble and incoherent storyline. The human characters are hopelessly dull and even extremely annoying and finally the appearance of the transformer Gandalf halfway through the film just typifies the introduction of dreadfully inappropriate ideas at the expense of those from the original stories.

The first film was awful and I was hoping this one would be a recovery, but this was utterly in vain.

Tragically the worst film I have seen to date.
