Shocking, but for all the wrong reasons. June 16, 2008 Mr. D. Bell (Northampton, England) 7 out of 9 found this review helpful
This film has been marketed as cross between seven and saw. Whilst there are elements of both films present, it in no way has the clever story telling of seven or the tension and horror of saw. By the time the end credits arrive there is a feeling of "is that it" rather than anything that will linger long in the memory. The biggest problem is the pace, it is just so slow. Also, rather than progress the story bit by bit, nothing happens for long periods and all of sudden there is a twist in the plot from no-where. Rather than be interesting or shocking it feels as if it was put there to try and keep viewers awake. The final "twist" is so stupid it beggars belief. I had high hopes for this film. It had rave reviews in a lot of publications, but sadly I found nothing of any interest. The only moment which has any tension arrives with about five minutes to go. The problem however, is that up until this point the film has been so dull that you really don't care less what happens to the characters involved. On the box there is a quote from a magazine saying "is this the most violent film ever?" The simple answer is, no. If I was writing the quote I would change it to "is this the most boring film ever?" If you are expecting something in the same class as seven or saw then steer well clear. It doesn't even come close to either of these films in terms of entertainment. If you like films with a (painfully) slow build up then it might be what you are after.
Strikingly unusual August 22, 2008 D. Jackson (UK) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
Considering that Waz passes itself off as a mainstream horror movie, I was really surprised at how different it was. The premise is basically- how much pain would you endure to save a loved one? Pretty sick, huh? Don't worry, though; even though it says "Is this the most violent film ever?" on the DVD case, it's not very violent at all in comparison to something like Hostel. Melissa George delivers a surprising performance as a cute rookie cop, but it's Selma Blair who makes the impact, playing the victim-turned-killer with superb competence. Overall, Waz makes for an OK night in, and it's far better than what some reviewers are making out. However, maybe it's worth waiting until it's about a fiver.
waz -up?? June 22, 2008 C. J. Paling (uk) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Waz this a good film -No! Nothing new here and what you see is not done very well, rubbish acting, poor script, predictable and the use of stereotypes shockingly awful especially the crack house scene. A waste of time and effort, why film maker think scenes of torture are the key to making good films is beyond me. The revenge element to this film is so devoid of reality ...ah why bother going on - this fim sucks!!
Brilliant thriller not torture porn! June 23, 2008 rullirock (UK) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
Despite the marketing of this film as ultra voilent, this isn't some torture porn knock off. Far from it. WZ is an intelligent thriller that makes you stop and question your beliefs about the nature of love. Yes, there's a bit of torture but that serves the story and there's so much more going on. Seen it several times and get more from it each viewing. Noticed that some folks on here are slagging it off. Fair enough, but its important to note the film got pretty much rave reviews in all the important publications and broadsheets! See this!
Waz'nt Much July 21, 2008 J. OConnor (Liverpool, UK) I really wanted this to be good, I'd seen the trailers, read some really positive reviews, and thought that despite my misgivings this may be a good film after all. But it wasn't. Thismovie tries so hard to be a psychological thriller, to copy the basic idea of the movie Saw, but it fails, and in doing so reverts to graphic violence to try making up for what it lacks, a decent plot, decent acting, and from the looks of the movie a lighting rig. I won't go into the plot of this film as the main product review from Amazon basically sums up the entire plot in just on two lines of text, and therein lies my problem with Waz. The film seems to have been filmed purposely too dark to set the tone of the movie which is basically your normal cop faire of victim turning the tables on the people who were responsible for Her ordeal, while throwing in the normal cop movie cliche of new cop with partner who's seen it all, and a bit of possible corruption. I would not say this movie is the worst that I have seen, far from it, but neither is it the best and I have given it just one star. It is watchable once so now I have done I feel relieved of my burden of having to watch it, and won't watch it again and advice anyone that is still thinking of buying it to rent it first and save yourself 12 or however much it is in your countries currency to but this DVD.
