Once again the earth is DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMED! November 28, 2007 K. Soeze (Sheffield) 26 out of 26 found this review helpful
In a nutshell I liked it and it is a worthwhile buy for any Futurama fan. However it isn't amazing. The format doesn't quite translate from a half hour tv programme to a 1 1/2 hour film. The writers evidently tried to cram as many of the minor characters in as possible which in some ways is a good thing but characters such as Robot Santa and Al Gore perhaps were given bigger parts than they should have been at the expense of say... Luur. That said there are many laugh out loud moments and the plot while ludicrous is no worse than many in the TV series. A very welcome return for a much missed show.
They had their chance, and they blew it December 17, 2007 Sarah McPhee (London, UK) 18 out of 51 found this review helpful
My husband and I are huge Futurama fans, and when I saw that this was released on DVD just in time for his birthday I bought it and smugly congratulated myself. Lamest birthday gift ever. The writers and actors should all be absolutely ashamed that they let this ridiculous parody be distributed for public consumption. The story was disjointed and didn't even make sense by futurama standards. The writers and actors had a huge opportunity to make the network regret the show's cancellation, however I am certain that the network execs responsible for Futurama's demise are sitting back congratulating themselves on a disaster averted. Fry and Leila's storyline is disjointed and for the whole 1.5 hours of this torture, you absolutely have no interest in how it ends. Bender is not the loveable destructive, sarcastic force he is through the series, and is instead reduced to a few half-funny one liners. His trademark "bite my shiny metal ass" wasn't even granted airtime. Hermes is featured in this movie way too much, and I can't believe how an unpopular character in the show was given a starring role over all the others, especially when the format used for the 1/2 hour TV show was gold. Basically, Futurama fans be wary of prepared to be disappointed. We shook our heads all weekend wondering where it all went wrong, and praising ourselves for sitting through the whole 90 minutes.
Hasn't missed a trick December 21, 2007 Abominable Snowman Productions 18 out of 18 found this review helpful
In the months of apprehension leading up to this release I was biting my nails on a regular basis. Futurama on television was possibly the best animated television program ever released (I know this is subject to debate so don't hurt me if you disagree) and like many comebacks there was the fear that it would not match its predecessor and the big build-up would come to naught. But from the first gag your hooked and it stays that way for the entire 90 minutes. The fantastical plot elements coupled with the off-the-wall humour common to Futurama make a delicious script and you don't lose out in the visuals either, the pristine animation is better than ever and works terrifically in a 16:9 format. But as it always was with Futurama, the show's like-ability didn't just fall in with the Sci-Fi parodies and zany jokes, it came through its willingness to be a proper comedy-drama and not just be a 20 minute gag-reel, like shows like Family Guy (which are hilarious, but lack substance). In Bender's Big Score you get all the touching moments that tug at your heart strings along with the laughs, it really takes something quite special to make you feel so strongly about what is essentially a cartoon. I loved this film from start to finish and as far as I can tell it is up their with the rest of the Futurama series, Matt Groening and co. haven't missed a trick with this one. It just as good as it always was, if slightly iffy in its 90 minute format. You won't be disappointed.
It's Back & Could Be Better February 5, 2008 Marty Depolo (UK) 10 out of 13 found this review helpful
Now I'm a loyal Futurama fan, & this by no means bashing the return of the cartoon, the reason for me giving an average score of 3 stars is I know that the next 3 films is going to better. If I gave this a 5 star & the next film is superior, what shall I rate it then? Anyway, despite many hardcore Futurama fans whining and complaining continuity & errors, they just didn't just sit back & enjoy the film. I'll be honest, there are a few funny moments, but they will not get you roll on the floor laughing. However, there are a few tear jerkers, & also, there are a few things in the film that ties along with the series, e.g. SPOILERS....the origin of Seymour's fossilisation... If this DVD is anything like the American version, it'll contain these features: 1) The DVD case is just a plastic slip case (kinda like putting your DVD in an envelope) 2) A full episode of the Hypnotoad 3) Maths behind Futurama 4) Black & white deleted scenes 5) Live comic con read (it's kinda like the cast reading a comic for you whilst the comic is displayed on screen) 6) Black & white clip of the next film "The Beast with a Billion Backs" 7) Audio commentary with the likes of Matt Groening, David X. Cohen, Billy West, John Di Maggio, Phil Lemarr & Maurice LeMarche Here's the laydown, if you're a Futurama fan that don't really care about some continuity & errors, then I'm sure you'll enjoy this film.

Its ironic how any review with 2 stars or less is deemed as unhelpful, seems people just want reassurance rather than opinion
