Picking up six months after the end of Skins' maiden season, this second series maintains the terrifically high standard set by the first. In its basic form a drama about teenagers, the trick to Skins is that it sidesteps the many, many cliches of the genre, and instead offers gritty, quite brilliantly written television. What's more, Skins is viewing that pulls no punches. By turns very funny, gripping and dramatic, it picks up the story of a group of under 20s in Bristol, dealing with issues of religion, sexuality and sex, among others. But it does this through a cast of three dimensional characters (each facing tough challenges of their own), suitably well realised by the primarily young cast. A selection of guest stars, including Harry Enfield, Bill Bailey and Shane Richie also appear. But is the second series of Skins better than the first? Yes, not least because it's willing to take risks, to evolve and darken the narrative a little, yet still remember to put its characters at the fore. It's still a show that may baffle an older audience, but stands as a shining beacon as to what Channel 4 can achieve when it backs proper British dramas. Roll on series three. --Jon Foster

Don't be fooled - this show is bloody brilliant March 7, 2008 Mr. David J. Cashin (Manchester, UK) 12 out of 16 found this review helpful
The words 'teen drama' carry a huge stigma with them. Most people will see it as something not worth bothering with. Shallow, fluffy, two-dimensional, lots of sex, drugs and booze and not much plot - at least, that was what I thought until I bought the first series on DVD and realised what I'd been missing out on. And if Series 1 was good, then so far, Series 2 is out of this world. Don't be fooled - this show is genius, giving even the most mainstream of quality television dramas a run for their money. Intelligently written dialogue, compelling storylines, well thought out and developed characters with depth and clever plot twists all contribute towards the making of this wonderful show. The critics have been falling over it and this is why. Only Skins could get away with a musical about Osama Bin Laden "blowing them away". Buy the DVD and fall in love with the show which continues to be underestimated by so many.

Disappointing April 23, 2008 Mr. G. R. Johnston (Cambridge UK) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I really enjoyed the first season and tried to keep the faith whilst enduring what could at best be described as an 'ordinary' follow up season. Cassie just becomes a pain to watch, shoddy story lines and not a patch on the fantastic first helping of this potentially cult drama. Hopefully the third season will redeem the program and this will just be a blip on a great show. Soundtrack remains awesome.

Just as gud as the 1st March 2, 2008 Mr. S. Wilson (N. lincs, England) 3 out of 7 found this review helpful
After just 3 episodes of this series of skins its got me completely hooked waiting for the next episode. This series is taken a much dark than the happy partying lifestyle which they was all living in the 1st series. But it has made for a much more dramatic story but there still the funny bits in it as well.
