Fab! Davina is the best personal trainer I have ever had. December 8, 2005 126 out of 128 found this review helpful
Having bought and worn out Davina's first DVD (The Power of 3) I have to admit I was really looking forward to the second. I could hardly walk after doing the first DVD, but after sticking to it, I found it to be such fun and a really good workout. This new workout is just as challenging and possibly even better than the first as the workouts fit in well with my lifestyle as a Mum to a young son who doesn't have time to hit the gym three times a week. I love the option to crank up the music and shut Davina up-sorry Davina! I would make sure you watch it all the way through just to perfect the moves as the idea is for the workout to be short, but effective. Here's to a flat tummy and a J-LO bum.
Good, but not great December 22, 2005 Kurea R (Scotland) 76 out of 77 found this review helpful
I had Davina's first workout and have used it a lot so I was looking forward to this one. This DVD is split into three workouts which we are told need only be done once each a week. The first one is a Pump section which combines weights with leg work. This time, instead of doing squats etc then a weights section, we do them together. This one is very good and I can already feel the effects. The second is a Boxing Cardio section which has a series of boxing and kicking moves. This is a fairly intensive section, and quite fun to do. The third is called Core Stability and that has poses like the plank and breathing exercises. Some of it was surprisingly difficult and will take a bit of practice. Each session lasts 30 minutes, but seems to go much faster. However, I do have some quibbles with it. One is that often things aren't explained very well, so in the first section Davina will sometimes move into the next exercise without any warning. This, I suppose, won't matter once you are used to the workout but I found it a bit annoying. The second is that in the boxing section we are not always told which foot or hand to use and it's difficult to tell from what they are doing because the cameraman often changes angles. It is quite confusing. Davina on the back of the DVD tells us we only need to do each section once a week, but during the workout or on the extras she tells us more than once that she had a really hard workout of an hour with either Mark or Jackie - so I think if we wanted a body like Davina's we'd need more than 1.5 hours a week. The recipes that are on the DVD as extras were a bit weak - I thought Davina would be showing us how to make them but the ingredients are just typed up on the screen and very difficult to read. However, I did enjoy it overall and I'm glad I bought it.
Worth getting but has a few downsides! January 6, 2006 26 out of 27 found this review helpful
I bought davina's new dvd as I have her last dvd and read somewhere that this one is meant to be better! In a way this is true but there are also some things i think were better in the last dvd. For some reason in both of davina's dvds there isnt much direction to what you have to do, luckily i can pick things up easily but if i couldnt i would have had to watch it a few times first to get the hang of it.They tend to go from one exercise to another without letting you know. The first section includes most of the leg lunges and squats from her last dvd but they are all squashed into a half an hour session and it includes arm exercises at the same time, this is an improvement from her last dvd, but it is quite a diffciult section the first few times you do it.The ab exercises seem to be easier but more effective. In the second section (the cardio box) there is no direction of what leg or arm you are supposed to be using and it gets quite confusing! It is a very fun workout but i would reccommend you watch it once before doing it.The third section is exercises to improve your posture and balance etc. I found this section very boring and the positions aren't explained that well. most of the exercises are taken from pilates and yoga and are probably very effective if you can do them properly and it you have the patience to do them. unfortunately i don't! The Dvd as a whole is a good workout and quite fun to do, I would just advise that you watch it through once or twice before doing it. Davina is, as usual, very amusing throughout the dvd, and overall it is worth getting!
Okay but not great July 19, 2006 Sarah (London) 23 out of 25 found this review helpful
I tried this for a change and wasn't overly impressed. For a start it is really easy so it lacks intensity for intermediate to advanced. Also it seems a bit haphazard with Davina changing exercises before the trainer has instructed you to do so which can be confusing. Although I like Davina I also found her a little bit annoying and the weird faces she was pulling but me off a bit! It could be a starting point if you are new to exercise and the 30 minute segments are nice if you are short on time? However if you have been training for a while you might and want something more challenging I strongly recommend you try Nell McAndrew's Ultimate Challenge and Peak Energy DVD's these are the best I have ever used and give you a good hard work out that really challenges you. They are way above any others on the market. If you are a beginner the "ultimate challenge" dvd is a great place to start as you have the option to finish the cardio workout after each thigh segment which means you can build up gradually to doing the whole 50 minute cardio work out as your fitness level improves. (Also handy for days where your pushed for time.)
Great Fun!!! But Absolute Agony! February 3, 2006 Lisa (London United Kingdom) 19 out of 19 found this review helpful
This is agony. I’m reasonably fit and have had a trainer in the past and the Pump work out killed me! That said, you needn’t bother with expensive personal trainers with this DVD, the exercises are the same so it’s a brilliant investment. The workout is really hard, there is no doubt about it and you don’t realise it at the time, but your bum will know the next day! The trainers that Davina is with are good and their instruction is clear, my only slight criticism would be that they don’t warn you much in advance of what’s coming so you struggle to follow it the first few times but you get used to it. The music is really good and the mostly music function is great if you just want to get on with it. The other thing I liked is that you can clearly see that Davina is fit herself and can do all the moves. You can believe she got that body through doing these workouts. I hate fitness DVD’s where the celebrity clearly didn’t get that figure through the workout they’re promoting! This is certainly the best fitness DVD I’ve ever purchased. It’s fun to do, the exercises genuinely work and it’s fat burning, if you did this workout regularly you couldn’t do any better unless you hired Jackie and Mark yourself. Buy this and do it, you’ll see good results.
