Amazon.co.uk Review Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas, an animated adventure from the DreamWorks studio, has little connection to the original fables from the Arabian Nights, but it's an entertaining romp none the less. Sinbad (voiced by the midwest vowels of Brad Pitt) gets commissioned by the wicked goddess Eris (Michelle Pfeiffer) to steal a magical book called the Book of Peace from the city of Syracuse--but the prince of Syracuse turns out to be a childhood friend of Sinbad's. So Eris steals the book herself and frames Sinbad, making the hero sail to the edge of the world to get it back, accompanied by Marina (Catherine Zeta-Jones), a woman he's secretly loved for years. The movie skilfully blends hand-drawn and computer images. The storyline is surprisingly well-constructed and actually has some thoughts about friendship and personal fibre, while providing all the swashbuckling, derring-do and cliffhangers the audience could want. --Bret Fetzer

Dreamworks' latest effort sees a roguish sailor wrongly accused of a theft he didn't commit, thanks to the machinations of the Goddess of Chaos, briliantly voiced by Michelle Pfeiffer. Finding himself condemned to execution, Sinbad's playmate, and prince of the realm (Ralph Fiennes) nobly steps in to take his place. Thus, Sinbad finds himself on a potentially suicidal voyage, racing to retrive the book of Peace, before his estranged friend must be put to death. The action sequences and special effects are incredible, and were especially breathtaking without the scratching on the cinema screen, but the film suffers for its writing and the over-acting of some of its cast members. Brad Pitt as Sindbad is well-cast, obviously enjoying the role - this comes through wonderfully in his performance, but the film's attempts at pathos and romance often seem forced; the best drawn relationship is that between Sinbad and his dog, which provides quite a few of the laughs... Despite its flaws, the film is enjoyable for its energy and visual audacity alone, and comes highly recommended for all ages - even more so in all its digital glory.
Great fun for kids and adults alike June 20, 2006 Mr. Gerard Mcnamara (Hungary) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
What a great movie! Brad Pitt as the voice of Sinbad is excellent, his vocals bring so much energy to the role that you nearly forget you are watching an animated film.
The movie itself is very fast with great action scenes, wonderful animation (no less can be expected from that amazing DreamWorks team), great one-liners and an invloving story/adventure. The music and sound effects are excellent adding greatly to the enjoyment of this movie.
The DVD extras are very good indeed. There are a large number of games for the kids which should keep them entertained for several hours and several other features, including a 'making of'. This is a great family movie and a good watch on a slow Sunday afternoon.

The overall view of this film was excellent. I took my 5 year old son to the cinema to watch this he sat rivited to his seat! This film is certainly one for the kids, even though I really enjoyed it as well. There was a good story line and great ending. I would certainly recommend anyone to go and get it!
Entertaining animated action adventure March 6, 2004 Wibles (Oxfordshire, UK) 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
Having Sinbad-mad kids we finally succumbed to buying them this DVD in the hope that they would like it. Well, contrary to many critics’ views that it is an animated adventure only for kids, I found the whole DVD delightfully entertaining with enough smart one-line quips to keep adults amused and plenty of swashbuckling battles of the goodies against the baddies to maintain 100% children attention.Brad Pitt’s voice comes across extremely well, as does his Joseph Feinnes, but in my view the star voiceover was that of Michelle Pfieffer who plays the Eris, the goddess of Chaos who resides in the fantastic realm of Tartarus. She adds so much more to the character than either Pitt or Catharine Zeta Jones, perfecting a warm sensuality, a pinnacle of deviousness and a flash of brutality that leaves you almost hoping that Sinbad really does sail away to paradise with her. The extras that come on the DVD are good… Cyclops Island is a post-film preview of what Sinbad and Marina get up to on their subsequent adventures and the Making of Sinbad is entertaining. No real downsides at all. A good buy.
Sinbad review January 20, 2010 Stacey L. Harper (England, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I ordered this dvd when my younger cousins were coming over from america when i noticed we hadn't got many childrens dvds. I brought this because of the names and because it looked like a film enjoyable for everyone. My younger cousins had already seen it and were failed to be impressed with my spending, however i was not as after they had left and i was feeling unwell one day i sat down to watch this movie and was delighted with how much i enjoyed it. It's fun and although some of the animation used usually puts me off i was able to enjoy it regardless. Up there with some disney movies i would recommend this film for family's and big kids such as myself.
