Clarification on Series 9 & 10 plus news of Series 11& 12, May 3, 2008 Patricia Carline (Doncaster, Yorkshire, UK) 20 out of 20 found this review helpful
I have deleted my former review so that I can update the situation - sorry but they won't let me do two! Having enquired directly of the company who produce the LSW DVDs - Universal Playback are just the distributors - I have discovered that what we saw on UK TV as 'Series 9' was actually Series 9 & 10, shown back-to-back, although they had been commisioned seperately - it was felt this would help promote Michael Aldridge as Seymour, the new 3rd man. Later releases on video seperated them out again and this was confirmed for the DVD releases - unfortunately without clarification. I've been a LSW fan since the pilot and am a former co-editor of summer-wine.com, now unfortunately defunct, and the state of affairs re: the BBC and LSW series DVDs has caused a lot of concern for many fans - however, I can confirm the above facts have been confirmed by a senior LSW production member. I can also confirm, direct from the producing company, that the DVDs due for issue late in December 2008 will contain the following episodes: Last Of The Summer Wine Series 11: # Episode Title TX Date 01 THE EXPERIMENT 16/10/1988 02 THE TREASURE OF THE DEEP 23/10/1988 03 DANCING FEET 30/10/1988 04 THAT CERTAIN SMILE 06/11/1988 05 DOWNHILL RACER 13/11/1988 06 THE DAY OF THE WELSH FERRET 20/11/1988 Last Of The Summer Wine Series 12 # Episode Title TX Date 01 COME BACK JACK HARRY TEESDALE 15/10/1989 02 THE KISS AND MAVIS POSKIT 22/10/1989 03 OH SHUT UP AND EAT YOUR CHOC-ICE 29/10/1989 04 WHO'S THAT BLOKE WITH NORAH BATTY, THEN? 05/11/1989 05 HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, GOUGH AND JESSIE 12/11/1989 06 GETTING BARRY HIGHER IN THE WORLD 19/11/1989 07 THREE MEN AND A MANGLE 26/11/1989 Last Of The Summer Wine Xmas 88: # Episode Title 01 CRUMS TX Date 24/12/1988 Duration 060m 11s Last Of The Summer Wine Xmas 89: # Episode Title 01 WHAT'S SANTA BROUGHT FOR NORA, THEN? TX Date 23/12/1989 Duration 049m 45s I hope this explains things satisfactorily - and I'm sure we all hope this means a faster turnaround of LSW DVDs - there are rumours of Series 13 & 14 in late Spring 2009 - no confirmation yet!
Caveat Emptor April 3, 2008 Frank Moyes (UK) 11 out of 23 found this review helpful
Just so nobody is in any doubt, this DVD is now on the streets and the contents are: Disc 1: Why Does Norman Clegg Buy Ladies' Elastic Stockings? The Heavily Reinforced Bottom. Dried Dates And Codfanglers. The Really Masculine Purse. Who's Feeling Ejected Then? The Ice-Cream Man Cometh. Disc 2: Set The People Free. Go With The Flow. Jaws. Edie And The Automobile. Wind Power. When You Take A Good Bit, Yorkshire Tastes Terrible. Disc 3: Christmas Special 1985: Uncle Of The Bride. Christmas Special 1986: Merry Christmas Father Christmas. Christmas Special 1987: Big Day At Dream Acres That confirms that contrary to the labelling, it contains Series 9 and three Christmas Specials (all of which preceded Series 10). It contains nothing whatsoever from Series 10. Some folk might not object to being misled. I do! The content is good and I would happily raise my rating to 5 stars. There was absolutely no need to incorrectly designate it as Series 9 & 10.

Thanks for the facts Patrica May 27, 2008 KiwiClive (New Zealand) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Here in New Zealand we haven't had to go through all the angst that has hit the UK, because the series were shown separately and a long time ago. We have existed on VCR tapes that have got worn out from repeated use. We are just absolutely delighted to be able to get them on DVD from Amazon because only Series 1 & 2 have appeared locally to date. I would give the series more than 5 stars if I could, as it has given us so much pleasure over the years. It's going to be a long wait till December for 11 & 12.
Will there really be NO season 10 on this DVD ? April 20, 2008 J. JOHNSON 5 out of 8 found this review helpful
I have had this ordered ever since I saw it would be available in May . I am disappointed to read from one reviewer that there will not be any of the Season 10 episodes on the set . As for the title being one which is an import to the USA , there are no exports to the USA except for a couple and none of the 2 season sets . There are none for any of the 2 season sets which have been released by Universal Playback . Any which are supposedly released for Region One players in the USA and Canada are counterfeits . They can be found on Ebay and are said to be formatted for Region One play . They are , in fact , poor quality counterfeits which are 'veiewable' as far as the programs go, but anyone can tell by the packaging that they are copies . The print is hard to read . The pictures on the package are blurry and when you play them the usual Copyright information which plays before the shows begin, and says they are not to be copied etc.. is missing . I do not know whether the original Playback releases have closed captioning or not, but these do not . Sadly, it seems that if we are to be able to purchase all these great shows we will have to buy counterfeits . The Distributors don't seem to care if we have them and if it is true what the aboved mentioned reviewer says, this set will not contain any of season 10 , even though it is advertised to contain Seasons 9 and 10 . When you look at the running length of 440 minutes , it looks as if this is true . There is no way there could be as many episodes as the first reviewer on this page has listed for Seasons 9 and 10 . If they ran for the usual 29-30 minutes this would be enough for aproximately 15 episodes only . This is very disappointing , as I love this show and want all the episodes ever made . We should all complain to Universal Playback and maybe they will do something positive about this . Maybe we will not need to rely on poor counterfeit copies , which by the way, Universal Playback would obviously never release because of this poor quality . If they don't do something we may be forced to purchase from crooks . I give it 5 stars because I could never give Last Of The Summer Wine any thing less .
