Amazon.co.uk Review The adventures of Doctor Martin Ellingham--more commonly known as Doc Martin--have proven to be one of ITV's most popular hits of recent years. And within this series three DVD set, you've got plenty of evidence as to why. For newcomers, Doc Martin, played with effortless skill by Martin Clunes, is a surgeon based in a small Cornish village. But it's not his direct, blunt manner that proves to be his only problem. No, the issue too is that the Doc has a phobia of blood. It's not the handiest problem for a Doctor to have, but it does allow Doc Martin to mix in good chunks of comedy alongside its drama. The third season of the show, spread across three discs in this set, finds it in terrific form. Boasting a strong cast, with Caroline Catz's Louisa. Stephanie Cole's Joan and Joe Absolom's Al among the standouts, Doc Martin's popularity is easy to understand. Because not only is the acting terrific, and Clunes must really take the plaudits too, but the scripts are of consistent quality. It should be noted that the end of the third series was the cause of some debate among fans, although this reviewer was certainly impressed by it. But what's less up for debate is that Doc Martin is one of the best mainstream dramas British television has thrown up in recent years, and that this DVD set offers some super entertainment. --Jon Foster

Brilliant! January 5, 2008 K. Robertson 18 out of 18 found this review helpful
I followed Doc Martin right from the 1st series, and I can safely say that the 3rd series doesn't disappoint! The comedy and drama mix together beautifully, and the setting for the show is stunning. The relashionship between Louisa and Martin is hilarious and heartbreaking at the same, due to the depressing end to the series. However, with six other episodes to enjoy, and a 4th series coming out later this year, Doc Martin fans have plenty to celebrate.
Will there be a Series 4???? December 2, 2007 Bella (UK) 12 out of 16 found this review helpful
I am a big fan of Doc Martin and would have easily given this series Five stars, but after the season finale, I have dropped it to Four. The whole concept of this show is about the relationship of Martin and Louisa, but the writers had to ruin it on this third series, why? Will there be a series four to correct this mistake, I dont know. But there sure as hell should be! Buy this DVD if you are Doc Martin fan, but trust me you will be very dissapointed with the finale.
Great Ending December 14, 2007 Columba (UK) 8 out of 12 found this review helpful
I have to disagree with the former two reviews as regards the ending. I never thought they would go through with the marriage. The fact is they were totally unsuited. It was a great ending and possibly that should be the last of the series. The first series was the best, followed closely by the second and the third. A happy ending would have pleased many viewers, but it would have been yucky and sentimental. Let's face it life doesn't always turn as as expected.
Doc Martin - A Pure Tonic January 29, 2008 Brian Carson (London UK) 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
Now ' Doc Martin - Series 3 ' is as good as ' Doc Martin - Series 2 ' if not better as it allows more screen time to ' Caroline Catz ' and of course ' Martin Clunes ' is on Top Form as normal. Actually rather than Doctors handing out expensive Drugs to people suffering from Depression really they would be far better prescribing a course of Doc Martin DVD's Take it from me it has not lost any of its Steam and this should Run and Run. IYV have confirmed that they have commissioned a fourth series.
Brilliant entertainment March 1, 2008 Chez (Australia) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This series is every bit as good as series one and two. I only have two complaints. The first one being that after sadly watching the last episode, nothing else compares, and secondly that there was only seven episodes. One goes through the same sort of grief process that happens after finishing a long fantastic book. Absolutely wonderful - atmospheric, brilliant photography, great characters, good story lines, and most importantly - lots of laughs. Looking forward to series four, and five, and six ..........
