Genius....hilarious! February 12, 2007 keefy (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Irishman Jason Byrne has been doing the comedy circuits for a number of years now both in Ireland and the UK. Whilst this, his first DVD, was filmed in front of an Irish audience in Dublin the subjects are universal, his Dad 'stupid old Irish gobshite!', kids, mothers, sex etc all get the Byrne treatment. Incredible energy, audience participation,(whilst at the same time insulting them), a daft game, and hilarious mundane observations such as the set and the towel they've given him make this an hilarious hour and a half drawing on the likes of Billy Connolly, Lee Evans, Chris Rock(the Irish being the Blacks) and his energy and momentum only come off the boil once or twice over the course of the gig. If you like your stand-up comedy raw and innovative then I recommend this. The 15 certificate is appropriate however.
Don't bother May 31, 2008 Pearly Queen (London) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
This DVD is self-indulgent rubbish. Byrne has hardly any material at all - the bulk of the act involves taking the mickey out of the audience, which would be acceptable if it were remotely funny, but he just abuses them. Schoolboy humour and constant gratuitous swearing - I was disappointed. I'm not prudish - sex jokes and swearing hold no fear for me, but Byrne just talks about sex in a really childish way, and the whole act is padded out with swear words to prove he's a grown up.
Sore belly - hilarious July 4, 2008 John Carney (Dublin) I dont understand the previous reviewer. The guy is hilarious. Bought this one day randomnly & myself & 2 mates sat down with a few beers. At one point at the end - "the skip joke" my mate was suppin his beer. Anyway he ended up spittin the beer all over me. Just couldnt stop laughing. I have watched it since 4 times & it never fails to disappoint. His constant off the cuff banter with the audience is brilliant & something few comedians are capable of. Also his wife gets an awful time but the stories are slick and hilarious. Loved it Highly recommended. Like comedy on speed with the pace Jason moves at
