Amazon.co.uk Review The debates have already been raging across the Internet over whether Family Guy has peaked, whether it's the funniest show on television at the moment, and whether it's better than The Simpsons, or some way behind it. Yet while most will agree that season five isn't the best the show's creators have produced, don't let that blind you to the sheer joy contained within this DVD set.The highlights of Family Guy for many, of course, are Stewie the ingenious baby and the family's dog Brian (arguably the sanest one of the lot), and both are in fine form here. And while this series again allows many of the supporting characters a space in the limelight, it's Stewie and Brian who remain responsible for some of Family Guy's funniest moments. Bluntly, there are plenty of them. Still, there's little getting away from the fact that season five lacks the spark that energised the superb first two or three series, and as a result, there are episodes here that are good where they were once great. There are, still, plenty of examples of the old magic, and it's still primarily a real pleasure that's pretty much guaranteed to raise laughs from those who don't mind their entertainment with a bit of edge. But it'll be interesting to see where Family Guy goes from here, and whether its real glory days are permanently consigned to the past. --Jon Foster

Giggidy giggidy! October 7, 2006 S. Hawes (London, England) 31 out of 34 found this review helpful
Consider yourself a Family Guy fan? Then get this spectacular set of episodes. Not just for the genius plotlines and those "well, they just p*ssed off yet another group of peple" moments but for some of the most hilarious scenes in TV history such as Osoma "ramadan or radaman?" Bin Laden fooling about in front of the camera before getting fish-slapped by Stewie, a wheel-chair bound and paralysed couple going "at it", Peter starting his own church to worship the holy Fonz and who can forget Stewie smashing a glass over Brian's head, half-drowning him, breaking his leg with a golf club, shooting him in both knees and lighting him on fire all over a $50 bet? The "other" cartoon family continue to improve in a series that absolutely destroys the Simpsons current efforts. Hugely reccomended for anybody that has a good sense of humour.
Family Guy Still Rocks!! September 22, 2006 Mr. TSW Page 24 out of 30 found this review helpful
I've seen most of these episodes, and am glad to say the quality of the writing is back up after the slight wavers in the uk series 4 (actually only the first half of the fourth production season, but I don't need to tell you that!) It is worth bearing in mind, though, that the last three episodes of this set have already been released in barely-altered form as 'Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story', the movie from last year.

I was a huge fan of the first three series, but the movie and season 4 dvd were terrible. The writers have completely lost it, neglecting and destroying the characters.... not a single laugh in any episode (seriously, its pathetic humour). Why the previous reviewer thought osama saying radaman instead of ramadan is funny is beyond me. I'll explain... The whole show revolves around 1) giving Seth Macfarlane an unfunny line (radaman), and his egotistical delivery is meant to drag it out into 4 minutes of laughing!!!! Radaman, ramadan.. anyone laughing?... no. It has become the very show it likes to mock, tv for idiots. and 2) a string of random gags that are poorly pulled off. They twist and confuse each situation and charcter just so that they can say the set up line... "like the time i.....", therefore making the stories lose all continuity and become pointless. The things that critics didnt like about season 4 are amplified in season 5. They do each cliche in the book, each one more predictable than the next, dedicating a whole episode to the A-Team, the fonz again, idiana jones again x 4 etc. Just copying the exact scene from the movie/show isnt clever, and isnt funny. So why do it when its completely unrelated to the story?... laziness. I decided to buy season 5 to show my loyalty (and im sure most of you fans will aswell), but this is terrible, and i wont be getting season 6. It would have been a cult classic after the original three seasons, now it is tainted. I realise this review is ruthless, but there is no way it deserves 5 stars and someones got to say it. Cringe your way through Family Guy Season 5
