Amazon.co.uk Review It's criminal, really, given the sheer outright quality of Family Guy that more people aren't willing to give it a try. For while it tends to draw comparisons to The Simpsons--after all, it is a family-based animated comedy show--Family Guy very much has a voice of its own. It's also less worried about catering to a family demographic, something the writers have little problem making the most of.Season four has plenty of evidence for why the show shouldn't be overlooked. Picking up the story of the family Griffin, this time more of the background characters are allowed into the limelight, and that's really to the programme's benefit. That's not to say the main players are out of sight, and the quite wonderful baby Stewie has plenty of air time, but there's a real ensemble feel. The rapid-fire, razor-sharp wit and writing quality that's become the trademark of the show is present and correct too, and the quality of the episodes on offer put season four up there as not quite the finest series of Family Guy to date, but it nonetheless runs things very close indeed. If you've not taken the plunge yet, you've really, really been missing out

Freakin' Sweet! February 6, 2006 35 out of 39 found this review helpful
This DVD release is not just a DVD release, it has such a story behind it, that no other DVD release has ever gone through so much. Family Guy was cancelled in its prime, after just three seasons FOX pulled it from its schedule. Die hard fans of the show were outraged and the biggest online petition ever was formed - "Bring Back Family Guy". It contained the most signatures any online petition has ever had, but still FOX didn't bring the show back. Then came the re-runs, showed in the USA by Cartoon Network, drew in record figures for a show on at 11pm, beating Jay Leno and David Letterman. Still FOX didn't bring it back. Then came the last straw for FOX, its another record breaker, Family Guy was released on DVD in the UK and USA. Sales of the first three seasons in both countries were the highest ever for a TV Show in terms of DVD sales. Finally, FOX recommisioned Family Guy!! After a long wait, this is the fruits of the creator, Seth McFarlane's labour. It paid of immensly, the show has never been funnier or more shocking. Every episode from Season Four is pure gold, there is not one "filler" episode, every single one had me laughing until I cried. Its so UN-politically correct, that its just sheer brilliance. Episodes Contained on Season Four DVD are: North by North Quahog Fast Times at Buddy Cianci Jr. High Blind Ambition Don't Make Me Over The Cleveland-Loretta Quagmire Petarded Brian the Bachelor 8 Simple Rules for Buying My Teenage Daughter Breaking Out Is Hard to Do Model Misbehavior Peter's Got Woods Perfect Castaway Jungle Love Containing 13 Episodes, Season Four is the best Family Guy season yet. I can not think of a moment in this entire series that has let me down, its all pure comedy and this is a DVD that will be in my collection the day of release. We are not only blessed with the triumphant return of Family Guy, but there are a bundle of special features including episode commentaries, documentaries and more. My one slight downpoint is that Season 1 - 3 all had excellent DVD menus and were funny in their own right, the same isnt said for Season 4, but hey, thats just the DVD Menus! My only slight gripe about the show, and it has nothing to do with the show itself, its more to do with the shows episode labelling. Season four of Family Guy was only meant to be 10 episodes, to test the ratings, but it was such a hit when shown in the USA, FOX commissioned a full season, but for some reason the episode numbering became a mess, and now the UK season four is different to the US season four. All very confusing, for no real reason! That said, this DVD collection couldnt be better. I insist that you buy it! 5 stars.
Good, but... March 20, 2006 Ian Mote 25 out of 42 found this review helpful
I am a big Family Guy fan & snatched this off the shelf when it was released here recently. And yes it made me laugh many times, but I never felt that it matched up to the earlier series.Stewie & Brian seem to be relegated from centre stage to getting solitary one-liners here and there; and rather than creating set pieces, there are far too many 'it was just like that time that....' type scenes. There are naturally still some moments of genius - Chris' appearance in a legendary 80s video, and also in a later episode singing an 80s classic, are both standout moments - but there just aren't as many as there used to be I recommend it to long-time fans, but if you've not been converted before, this isn't the one for you
Someone to lie for, live and die for, I have 'Family Guy' March 22, 2006 17 out of 26 found this review helpful
Season 4 contains some classic moments. PTV alone, in my opinion makes the season worth buying as it is pretty much the funniest and best constructed cartoon episode I have ever seen. Aside from this every episode is superb, leaving you feeling like you've been watching the TV for a couple of hours down to the amount that McFarlane et. al. manage to cram into each episode.Top stuff

If your a long time family guy fan this is an absolute must, more of the same we've come to love. If you've not seen much before, why??? i'd recommend trying some of the other series first as there's a fair few jokes in this one refering back to past episodes, it's not vital but you'll miss some gems in this if you haven't seen the others! Basically, get it and laugh yourself silly.
Whats Happened! July 18, 2006 C. Barker (Scotland) 14 out of 42 found this review helpful
I don't usually write reviews but with family guy season 4 I felt I must! For me it seems as if they are trying too hard and go too far with the jokes, they aren't even funny! What's happened with Stewie! I used to love him when he was bent on world domination and trying to kill Lois, there's none of that bar a reference in the first episode! Seasons 1-3 were great but season 4 was a big disappointment for me, I will however buy season 5 when it arrives in blind hope they have realized the error of there ways!
