Amazon.co.uk Review The sitcom may be flatlining, but as long as there are fresh and original series like Scrubs, the prognosis isn't entirely negative. Created by Bill Lawrence, Scrubs is an interns'-eye view of hospital life and the torturous, tragic, and triumphant route to becoming a doctor. The eminently likeable Zach Braff heads the cast as "newbie" J.D., whose years of medical school haven't quite prepared him for chaotic Sacred Heart Hospital. Family Guy has nothing on the live-action Scrubs when it comes to surreal asides and fantasy sequences (for example, J.D. literally becomes the proverbial deer in the headlights when he cannot answer a medical query), pop culture references, and TV Land casting (John Ritter guest stars as J.D.'s negligent father in "My Old Man," and St. Elsewhere veterans William Daniels, Ed Begley, Jr., Stephen Furst, and Eric Laneuville appear as Legionnaire's-stricken doctors in "My Sacrifical Clam"). With surgical precision, this inaugural season charts J.D.'s growth as a doctor and a human being, and the close-knit bonds he forms with his equally overwhelmed peers and colleagues, including best friend and surgeon Chris Turk (Donald Faison), beautiful, but raw-nerved and by-the-book Elliot Reid (Sarah Chalke), and supportive nurse Carla Espinoza (Judy Reyes'), who affectionately nicknames J.D. "Bambi." But at the heart of the series is J.D.'s relationship with his mentor, Dr. Cox (an Emmy-worthy John C. McGinley), a cross between Obi-Wan Kenobi and a pit bull. Giving Scrubs a further shot of adrenaline are recurring characters Jordan (Christa Miller Lawrence), Dr. Cox's satanic ex-wife, and Neil Flynn as the Janitor, who torments J.D. just as Larry Miller menaced Jerry in the Seinfeld episode "The Doorman." Scrubs' animated sensibility allows for inexplicable cameos by Jimmie Walker or, at one point, an impromptu West Side Story-esque dance-off to convey the schism between the surgeons and other doctors. But while hilariously funny, Scrubs can break your heart too, as in the two-parter "My Occurrence"/"My Hero," with guest star Brendan Fraser as Jordan's spontaneously spirited brother, who is diagnosed with leukemia, and "My Old Lady," in which J.D., Elliot, and Chris experience for the first time losing a patient. Whether you're a "newbie" or devoted viewer, this DVD release is just what the doctor ordered. --Donald Liebenson, Amazon.com

It's Finally Here! April 26, 2005 C. W. Martin Martin (Worcestershire, England) 55 out of 87 found this review helpful
This is the first customer review written after the announcement of 'Scrubs, season 1' on DVD, but what more is there to say? TV is a little different in america. Rather than television chanels paying for shows previously aired in other countries, tv networks pay thousands, sometimes millions on shows that they strategically air on 'primetime tv'. It's a harsh world, shows are aired, weighted and dumped for the slightest thing. I am only telling the few of you that do not already know this about such proceedures, so that you can inderstand the quality a show must sustain to make it into a fourth year, with a fith practically secured. A show, that is, like 'Scrubs'. Each character is both endeering and hilarious, yet despite the series' top-class comedy, 'Scrubs's comes down to one thing; learning. Every episode upto four morals are realised, and not a-one of them have you heard before. See it as 'Sex and the City Jr' except this is for guys as much as anyone! One of the best things I've ever seen. Please tell me click below if you found this review helpful!
Scrubs is supreme June 3, 2006 Patman 16 out of 16 found this review helpful
I bought this after seeing afew episodes on tv and loved every moment of it. It's generally really funny, and then theres the moments which will have you in doubled over laughing for ages and then thinking about it later and laughing again. This is well worth the money and not only will it have you in stiches it will probably also question your own morality and the way you think about people around you, and the thing that makes all this possible is JD's inner monologue
Note to those renting series 1 from Amazon - you need disc 4! July 28, 2006 T. Mcveigh (London United Kingdom) 16 out of 18 found this review helpful
If you are renting this series from Amazon, please be aware you will also need "Bonus disc" disc 4. If you are using the "Add to rental list" link, make sure you tick the "also add bonus material" box or you won't even be aware of its existence. Otherwise, like me, you might suffer the delusion that all the series 1 episodes are on the first 3 discs and will miss out on the last 3 episodes! Having already watched series 2 (borrowed from a friend), I only discovered my mistake on reading Amazon reviews that mentioned the "My hero" episode (where Dr Cox's friend is ill) and thinking "I don't remember that storyline". Seems a bit silly of Amazon to classify a disc solely as bonus material if it actually has 3 episodes on it.
Anything this funny should be illegal! June 1, 2006 Book Worm (Kent UK) 15 out of 16 found this review helpful
I love scrubs. You get to hear JD's hilarious internal monologue, as well as seeing some of his more outlandish imaginings. The various relationships are both touching and packed with humour. Buy it, kick back and laugh until your sides need stitches!
Wahey! It still remains in glory!!!!!! April 8, 2007 Owain (Dyserth, Wales) 12 out of 13 found this review helpful
Scrubs. It was a dvd I chose out of millions to buy. I'd never watched it before, but I'm proud I made such a desicion. It didn't just change my mind about comedies, but it chaned my idea of life. No program is funnier than this, neither is one so heartfelt and that's why I recommend this film to every human being on the planet, whatever their taste. When I said Scrubs is the funniest show on good ol' planet earth, I truly meant it. It's filled with the most enduring characters and dialogues, i'll ever know. But mostly, each episode of Scrubs is a Fable. You learn things you've never even thought about before. May i also say that every season of scrubs up to season 4 is as special as eachother. Season 4 is however awfully dissapointing. I'm not sure about season 5 yet because I haven't watched it. So, If I was you buy all seasons of scrubs up to season 4 and then skip it if season 5 is good enough.
