A must have collection November 11, 2003 Steven Tillsley (Essex, UK) 30 out of 30 found this review helpful
Not only is this DVD set a must have for Eddie Murphy fans, it it also an essential buy for fans of both comedy and action films! Although there are perhaps films more funny or with more action then these, there are few that have managed to blend the two together so well. In terms of comedy, the Beverly Hills Cop trilogy shows Murphy at his finest. Comedy highlights include the hilarious and clever way in which he cons his way into a top hotel in the first film and how he manages to 'steal' a whole house to stay in during the second film. The action is both fast paced and funny as the classic car chase scenes in the first two are improved by music from the Pointer Sisters and by Murphy's comments and facial expressions in the second and third films. All three films are superb, although possibly the third film is weakest in terms of plot, but it does contain some of the funniest scenes such as when Murphy attempts to make the intercom work at the police station and ends up leaving his car at the entrance. All three films are made better by the great soundtracks that acompany them(i've got the first two) and songs such as 'Shakedown' and 'Stir it Up' keep the fast pace of the film going and of course 'Axel F' is one of the most popular tracks from a movie of all time! With the Beverly Hills Cop trilogy, Murphy has without a doubt created one of my favourite movie characters of all time, Axel Foley I love you!
2 and 3 are great, number 1, hmm... May 20, 2004 P. Woods (England) 11 out of 46 found this review helpful
I'm sure any lover of Eddie Murphy will definately want this collection. Mumber 2 and 3 are classics in my opinon, with loads of action, and lots of funny bits, but I don't know if everybody will enjoy the first one as much. Usually the original movie is the best, but this time I think it's the worst. It has a completely boring story-line (Eddie Murphy wants to avenge the death of his friend, so he goes to Beverly hills to stop them) we've all seen this story-line before. Also, there isn't as much action that you'd expect to be. The only action is really the first five minutes and the last ten. Only worth getting the first one for the comedy, but not for action fans. Now, the last two have loads of action, aswell as comedy. My favourite would have to be the third, 'cause I like the area it's set in, Wonder world (amusement park). The second is more like the first, but with a better story-line, action and comedy. So, Eddie Murphy fans will love, comedy fans, maybe, action fans, only for the last two.
Eddie's Big Break With the original Popcorn movies! November 8, 2002 10 out of 13 found this review helpful
The original masterpiece Beverley Hills Cop was the film that established Eddie Murphy as a very funny guy, and started a trend in Hollywood for popcorn movies. That means a movie that is just plain fun. The two sequels are also very funny, and Murphy's character Axel Foley is so wonderful to watch, that the excitement is sustained throughout the trilogy. Personally, as a major Eddie fan, this is one of my favourite all time movies, and I also reccomend "Coming To America", also excellent. And who'll forget that amazing soundtrack that is actually in the top ten mobile ringtones, 15 years after the 1st film was released!
Great films and plenty of extras too! July 22, 2004 Adam Clarke 8 out of 20 found this review helpful
What can i say, Eddie Murphy the comic genious never fails to entertain us with all the Beverly Hills Cop films. The package also caomes with enough extras to keep you entertained for some time. Definitely worth a purchase!
