Amazon.co.uk Review Heartbreakers wants to be a distaff variation of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, compensating for lack of intelligence with ample cleavage provided by Sigourney Weaver and Jennifer Love Hewitt. This alone should draw plenty of drooling guys who will enjoy the scenery and affirm the movie's depiction of men as lecherous idiots. And what scenery it is! Dressed up in trampy glamour, Weaver and Hewitt play mother-and-daughter grifters with a devious routine: Max (Weaver) lures wealthy cads into marriage, and then daughter Page (Hewitt) seduces them, so mom can discover the infidelity and fleece the chump in divorce court. They've just scammed the boss of a hot-car ring (Ray Liotta) and now it's on to Palm Beach, Florida, where they'll dupe a wheezing tobacco baron (Gene Hackman) and retire to the good life. Or so they think... Armed with the same air headed humour he brought to Romy and Michele's High School Reunion, director David Mirkin relies on the cliched notion that sex turns all men into morons--a conceit that would have worked if the dialogue and sitcom antics were more convincing. Additional plot twists--not to mention Hewitt's microskirts and Wonderbras--may hold your attention, but you may find yourself harking back to Steve Martin, Michael Caine, and those happier high jinks on the French Riviera. --Jeff Shannon, Amazon.com

Most fun I've had in years! March 20, 2002 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
This is one of those movies you just keep on watching over and over again - and it stays funny! Incredible performances by Sigourney Weaver, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Ray Liotta and Gene Hackman, not to mention Jason Lee. I went to see it three times at the cinema and couldn't wait to get my hands on this DVD.From the moment Liotta carries Weaver through that loooong corridor to their honeymoon suite, the laughs just keep on coming and never seem to stop. From there on the plot twists and turns, keeping the pace moving and comedy rolling right up until the end (which, by the way, is not as predictable as you might think). A wonderful chick flick that guys will enjoy as well and that girls will want to watch again and again. The only criticism I have is that the DVD should have had more extras. I would have loved to see some of the outtakes or deleted scenes. Other than that - it's great! Two enthusiastic thumbs up!
A genuinely funny film! February 3, 2003 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
The story of this film suggests that it will depend on nudity and some coarse language to be funny. But I was wrong. That is NOT the case with Heartbreakers. This has got to be the best film of 2001- the jokes just keep on coming. And there aren't many rude scenes. It has a great script, the plot is entertaining and like I said, the jokes are thrown at you every minute. The best scenes are: The Morning After, The Heimlich Manoeuvre, A Russian Song, Gifts For The Ladies, and One Cigarette Too Many The location is pretty good too, and of course so is the weather (lucky americans!). But the best thing about Heartbreakers is the cast. They are GREAT! Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sigourney Weaver, Ray Liotta, Gene Hackman and Jason Lee are all excellent. Not only do they work well together, but they make their parts believeable. Jennifer Love Hewitt really outdoes her acting ability- I don't think she's ever been this good (I hope she keeps it up!). The one tiny problem with the DVD is there aren't that many extras. In the US they get outtakes, deleted scenes and commentary by Sigourney Weaver, Jennifer Love Hewitt and director David Mirkin. But the interview with Jennifer Love Hewitt was a more than welcome addition! So all in all, it doesn't get much better than Heartbreakers. The DVD could have more extras, but the film is so good you don't really notice.

I was forced to go and see this by my female friends, expecting some mussy, sentimental pap. Granted it is at times, but no more than is needed. It is sheer entertainment, had me laughing so much, and made you leave the cinema with a huge grin. Oh and lads, you should buy it just for Jennifer Love Hewitt, because...DAMN that girl looks fine.
A great film February 4, 2002 5 out of 13 found this review helpful
This is the best film I have seen in ages. Sigourney weaver, well it just shows how talented she is, and Jennifer love Hewitt well thats another story! The cracks just keep on coming!I was a bit unsure at first if I wanted to see it or not but I would have regreted if if I hadn't gone. A must see film, the best comedy of 2001!
Absolutely Brilliant June 4, 2003 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
This is a great movie. One of the best romantic comedys i have seen in years. Jennifer Love Hewitt escapes her tormented 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' role to shine as an assistant professional con artist the Weaver whereas Sigourney Weaver really shows off her incredible acting ability as Hewitts Con artist Mother, a far cry from her famous 'Alien' role. The assisting performances really boost the films comedy including Gene Hackman and a cameo from Carrie Fisher. The comedy is hilarious, the acting top notch and realistic and the story is faboulus. Definetly one of the best films of 2001.
