5 out of 5 stars Best Season so far!!   August 1, 2006

From the action packed season opener, to the scream at the tv 'to be continued', at the end of the finale, it's very obvious this is Smallville's best year.

Season five takes place straight after the season four finale, with an episode entitled arrival. It ties up many loose ends, and resolves many issues raised in season four. Most notably Clark finally finding out that his best friend, Chloe Sullivan knows his secret.

Throughout the season there are many ongoing story lines. The on again, off again Clana relationship, which for me became old in season 1. I'm a little bias, but it seems to me that Chloe and Clark should be the ones together. Fortunately we are treated to many Chlark moments this season. Due mostly to the fact that Chloe has now become Clark's confidant, and keeper of his secret.

Then there's Lex's progression to the dark side, where he becomes ever closer to his inevitable destiny. Developing into a character, who is more Clark's enemy, than his friend.

One of the most interesting, and gripping plots however remains the Professor Fine AKA Brainiac storyline. Brainiac, a Kryptonian artificial intelligence wants nothing more than to release ZOD. And this means a lot of trouble is brought Clark's way. Leading to an inevitable clash in the finale, which leaves many characters fates hanging in the balance.

This is Smallville at it's best, if you do only buy one season of Smallville then this should be it!

Don't get me wrong. I do really LOVE Smallville!!! But, for God's sake please, please, please, KILL LANA. She is SO DAMN DRIPPY. I am sick to death of the Clarke and Lana love story. It's like a yo-yo, going up and down, side to side, but it doesn't actually go anywhere! BORED NOW.

Plus, why is Lex always at the centre of each villain/kiddnapping/viral weapons? I know he is THE bad guy of the superman franchise, but he's not the full fledged bad guy yet. they keep changing their mind about him. the series won't develope if you can't expand on bad guys! we'll be on season 6 soon! Mix it up!

They have a fabulous cast, they just don't know what to do with them. Lana's always a main character and her character's very 2D! Tom Welling's wonderful! Chloe, who's a brillant actress gets shoved to the back and only in it when clarke wants something! Lois is hardly ever in it, which is a shame! Her fiesty-ness is a welcome change to the predictable formula. Lex is perfect, although i would like it if he'd stop quoting proverds or mythical/ancient stories that tie in with the episode. it's good every now and then, but he does it all the time.

The series always has really good season premiere's and finale's. yet manages to undo everything thats happened in 1 episode. I would love it if they had a storyline stretch over multiple episodes!

I hope Smallville tries to revamp itself a little. I think it would be interesting to have a series where Lex and Clarke are finally enemies. Maybe, Lana could die, leaving Lex and Clarke each, believing each others responsible. starting their eternal hatred of each other! YEY!
PLEASE KILL LANA!!!
X

5 out of 5 stars Will Go Out With A Bang   May 23, 2006

While the first four seasons provided a lot of entertainment, with different meteor infected baddies causing problems for Clark Kent. This series started off feeling a little more character based than most smallville epsiodes. Highlights being the 100th episode where a favourite character is killed off. The characters are still as brilliant as ever, with Lana and Lex getting closer, you can now see the gradual attraction of Clark and Lois. Too bad that Superman Returns has put an end to Smallville's reign. Must buy for any superman or Smallville fan. Fab stuff.

5 out of 5 stars The Best Season to Date for Smallville   June 25, 2006

This season is the best for Smallville since the First Season. The Season starts with where it lefted of from the end of Season 4. There are some great stand alone episodes. James Marsters (Spike from Buffy and Angel) plays the role of Brianic well. Lex turn to the dark side i feel in this season is great. With a few other DC Heros making a visit Aquaman and Cyborg. The 100th Episode makes Smallville change abit with the loss of a great character. The season ends on a high and will have you at the edge of your seat. I would recommend that every person who watches Smallville to buy this Season Box set on DVD.

One thing I really like about shows which run like Smallville does is when the season has the one major storyline and the blanks filled in in single episodes. Buffy did it.
Smallville Season 1 was okay, but almost every episode went on as though the one before it never happened.
What I loved about both this season and season 4 is the story continues throughout the hole of the season.
This season was the best by far. Absolutely loved it.
The cast still show they're loving every minute of it and as always John Glover (Lionel Luthor) is wonderful as a different type of person this time out!
The 100th episode wasn't what I thought it would be, but the closing 15 minutes were wonderful and moving.
The season finale was great too, Bring on Season 6. Can't wait!!! [cK]
