4 stars for content, zero for disk quality September 26, 2005 Melanie (Essex, United, Kingdom) 6 out of 9 found this review helpful
This DVD looks like it will be really interesting and useful - but there is either a fault with the master edit 12 minutes into the programme or Amazon keeps sending me the same faulty copy. The colour is faulty ie. the karate suits look yellow/green and the programme stops altogether after 12 minutes 14 seconds. Has anyone else had this problem?
An excellent introduction to Wado-Ryu!! August 16, 2007 Mrs Jill E O'Neill 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This DVD is an excellent introduction to Wado Ryu and worth every penny! Doug James has been teaching karate for many years and has produced an excellent introduction to Wado Ryu suitable for anyone studying this style of karate. Students studying other styles and wanting tips on competion techniques may also want to view it too! The DVD starts with some motivating shots of karate students going through some basics and some then practicing some sparring moves. The curriculum for each belt is then introduced in turn along with training tips ( eg safe warm-up routines ) and clear explanations of the techniques being taught. This is useful as it is important to get the basis right early on rather than have to unlearn them later on. The presentation is very professional and Doug has a positive and direct approach to his presentation. The only slight drawback is that there is a lot of infomation to fit in and the pace is sometimes a bit quick, so a quick re-wind may be necessary. Other than that , an excellent DVD well worth the money but only to be followed in parallel with instruction from an experienced teacher of course.
Excellent introduction September 6, 2007 David Atherton (UK) A really good introduction to Wado-Ryu Karate. Organised according grade so you can concentrate on the information you need without getting distracted, and done in a clear and comprehensive style. Also includes more some of the more 'peripheral' information that you need to know such as how to bow, that is often missed elsewhere. As a teacher Doug is very inclusive, and doesn't talk down, while he clearly knows what he is talking about. Highly recommended, and I look forward to needing to but the next one in the series!
