Amazon.co.uk Review Steven Seagal has always been an awkward action hero. Initially, he had a certain amount of credibility thanks to his nebulous association with secret government agencies and mastery of Aikido, which helped to excuse his bad acting. But as a self-righteous action hero in the vein of Schwarzenegger and Stallone, Seagal fell into unintentional self-parody faster and more dramatically than either of his two predecessors. In Out for Justice, Seagal plays Gino Felino, a Brooklyn-born cop known and respected by everyone--both good and bad--in his neighbourhood. The worst of the baddies is Richie Madano (William Forsythe), a crack-smoking killer who murders his partner and terrorises all. Technically, Felino is a terrible cop--touching evidence at murder scenes, stealing evidence, intimidating witnesses--but only by breaking those rules can he bring in this horrible criminal. As his soon-to-be-ex-wife discovers, he does everything because he cares too much. Julianna Margulies (ER) has a small but thankless role as Richie's hooker girlfriend, and Gina Gershon (Bound, Showgirls) has an equally thankless role as his foul-mouthed, bar-owning sister. --Andy Spletzer, Amazon.com

PROBABLY THE TOUGHEST ACTION MOVIE EVER! April 6, 2001 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
STEVEN SEAGAL plays a brooklyn cop,(GINO) and things go from bad to worse, when his partner is gunned down in broad daylight. To further complicate matters, GINO knows the assassin to be none other than former childhood pal RITCHIE (a very intense WILLIAM FORSYTH.) GINO swears revenge, and in the course of the night, will use any means to get RITCHIE, even if it means defying the mafia, or the law, for which he stands for. Trouble is, RITCHIE (now psychotic with drugs) is more than ready for the vengefull cop and is leaving a litter of dead bodies to lead him to his trail. OUT FOR JUSTICE is without doubt STEVEN SEAGALs finest moment on screen. The violence (some of it, stomach-churning) is nevertheless dispatched out to some worthy looking lowlifes. Action, thriller and of least all, martial arts fan will not be disapointed with this gritty urban thriller.
This film is good! February 7, 2002 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I have to admit it. This is probably the best John Flynn movie starring Steven Seagal and William Forsyth I think I have ever seen. I love everything about it, from Seagal's zero tolerance policy and his solo mission to kill Richie Madano to the way he dresses and in particular the way he wears a beret to work. Seagal has been described by many as a master of the martial arts... it's easy to see why! The many action scenes really highlight his athletic prowess and it's astonishing to think how long this guy must have spent in the gym and on the track. There are few actors who bring as much to a film as Seagal. There aren't enough fingers on my hand to count the number of emotions conveyed in his performance (in fact, I lost count but I'm sure it was more than five). So go handle your business and go cop a copy of 'Out for Justice' - you need it in your life!
Classic action from the bone breaking master October 8, 2005 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
This film is, i feel, Segal's crowning moment, the mixture of quick wit and sharp moves lifts this film into one of the classiest martial arts sagas ever committed to celluloid. From the opening bone breaking scenes to the final showdown with the gangland boss, it left me speechless, and i haven't even mentioned the corkscrew finalie. Although full of smart and innovative set pieces, the highest point has to be the "pool ball in a beer towel scene" which is accompanied by some of the best bone crunching sound effects you will ever hear coming out of your TV. Buy this film, no, buy two copies, just in case you wear the first one out. A classic which will stay with me forever.(Hope you like this review John)
Classic Early Seagal October 8, 2005 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
In this film Steven Seagal is a rookie cop (er...how many times have we seen him in this kind of role), who is spurred on in his search for JUSTICE by the death of his close friend. You see some excellent fight scenes which are probably the best I've seen Seagal do in a long time. The bad guy in this film is quite good as well and for most of film Seagal's main aim is to terrorise anyone who knows the whereaboouts of this psycho. For me it still doesn't beat his best film-Under Siege-but it's not bad. If you're a die hard Steven Seagal fan then you'll like this one!
STEVEN SEAGAL MAKES BREAKING BONES LOOK EASY January 4, 2007 stuart (MIDDLESBROUGH, ENGLAND) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I watched this film last night for the first time and I really enjoyed it as it had the action and violence that has been missing in recent action films (raw). The story is (it's a simple story): Brooklyn born and raised cop Gino Felino (STEVEN SEAGAL) has seen many changes in "the neighbourhood". One sad one is that boyhood adversary and criminal scum Richie (William Forsythe) has turned the local streets into war zones. He's a mad dog unleashed, who Gino's more then willing to send to an eternal obedience school. But he and his world - weary partener (Jerry Orbach of TV's LAW AND ORDER) must catch Richie first. As I have said in my other reviews I have only seen a few STEVEN SEAGAL films and the ones I have watched have been really good so I plan on watching more of his films and hope they are just as good. The film was part of a STEVEN SEAGAL box set I bought, the box set also includes: NICO: ABOVE THE LAW (which I have also reviewed), UNDER SIEGE, UNDER SIEGE 2: DARK TERRITORY, EXECUTIVE DECISION, THE GLIMMER MAN, FIRE DOWN BELOW and EXIT WOUNDS (which I have also reviewed).
